BYD’s FangCheng Bao Titanium 7 launched: All-electric Toyota Prado rival shapes up for Aussie arrival as a Denza

BYD’s FangCheng Bao Titanium 7, or Ti7, has been launched at the Beijing motor show with a new all-electric powertrain, as the rugged Toyota LandCruiser Prado rival shapes up for a potential export launch under the Denza name.

The new SUV is also available with a plug-in hybrid 1.5-litre turbo engine combined with dual electric motors, and could be positioned as a more sophisticated alternative to the freshly launched GWM Tank 300 Hi4-T if green-lit for our market.

Unlike the GWM, the new Ti7 is based on a more car-like monocoque platform and measures 4999mm long, 1995mm wide and 1865mm tall, with a lengthy 2920mm wheelbase.

With reports that BYD has already trademarked the Ti7 name Down Under (it could also be called B6 or B7), the local arm has yet to comment on whether its latest SUV will be offered to Australian buyers.

The all-electric version revealed in China comes with two powertrains — a single electric motor producing 300kW and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant delivering 515kW.

Whichever you choose, the new Ti7 is fitted with a large 106kWh battery. The rear-wheel-drive version is claimed to cover up to 755km on a single charge, while the all-wheel-drive version can travel up to 675km, with both figures based on the lenient CLTC test cycle.

Inside, the new Denza model features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 26-inch head-up display.

At the Chinese show, BYD announced the FangCheng Bao Titanium 7/Ti7 would be priced from 220,000 yuan (about A$45,000), significantly less than the $74,990 asked for the smaller, entry-level Denza B5. That gap suggests the latest model’s price could more than double if it arrives in Australia.
