The Hyundai ELEXIO is a great family SUV – here are 10 reasons why

The Hyundai ELEXIO is an attractive electric SUV with a great price. But there’s so much more to it than that. It is the culmination of 35 years of EV innovation by Hyundai. Here are 10 things you need to know about what makes the ELEXIO so great:

Hyundai knows EVs

While the ELEXIO is the latest cutting-edge battery electric vehicle from Hyundai, the brand has actually been researching and developing EVs for 35 years. From its first ambitious attempts with the original Sonata Electric Vehicle in 1991 to the rollout in the 2020s of a family of slick, sophisticated EVs based on the exceptional E-GMP technology, the progress it’s made is obvious. So, too, are the winners: buyers of the Hyundai ELEXIO.

Range anxiety, what range anxiety?

With its large 88kWh battery pack and efficient Hyundai-developed E-GMP electric architecture, the ELEXIO delivers both long range and fast charging: up to 562km1 in the variant according to the WLTP and 10-to-80 percent in approximately 38 minutes2. It has all the assets to quell any misinformation out there about EVs and their everyday versatility.

Satisfying yet smooth powertrain

As the ELEXIO is a pure EV, you get to enjoy the immediate and satisfying performance that its 160kW e-motor delivers. No lag, no fuss, no emissions – just smooth, strong response that’s brilliant for around-town driving and soothing on the highway. The 88kWh battery also enables 4kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging so you can even top-up devices like laptops on the road or use household appliances – useful for a road trip.

Safety is paramount

The ELEXIO has been tested to the stringent standards of the independent safety authority ANCAP, earning a maximum five-star safety rating. It not only protects its adult and child passengers in an accident with the aid of nine airbags, but is also designed to minimise injuries to pedestrians. It also comes with a comprehensive suite of expertly tuned Hyundai SmartSense®3 driver assistance systems to help you avoid accidents. These include vitally important autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic collision avoidance. Adding more reassurance are high-quality cameras and sensors to help ensure great vision for the driver in all directions. And, cleverly, the ELEXIO can smart park into a tight space with no passengers onboard.

Locally tuned for improved performance

For many years Hyundai has been tuning the driving behaviour of its new models to specifically suit Australia’s uniquely rough ‘n’ tough road conditions. The ELEXIO is the latest beneficiary of this wise policy. Local engineers have collaborated with their international colleagues to deliver accurate steering, confident handling as well as a comfortable, quiet and fatigue-reducing ride. This doesn’t just make travelling in the ELEXIO more pleasurable; it helps ensure that it has the dynamic capacity to react promptly if an emergency response is required.

Superb screentime

Modern cars can be very intimidating to learn with multiple screens and many layers of information to access and understand. But the ELEXIO introduces a new generation 27-inch panoramic infotainment system that makes it simple. With its Android Automotive Operating System and a Snapdragon 8295 chip it delivers high-resolution super-fast responses on a 27-inch screen that both the driver and front seat passenger can access, all presented via a familiar smartphone -style interface. It’s all about making the car more accessible and inclusive for its passengers.

Features for tech heads!

And that’s not all when it comes to ELEXIO’s tech, as the driver also gets access to a head-up display that relays key driver data. It can be tuned through multiple views, including turn-by-turn navigation that is enabled for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Another cutting-edge piece of new tech is Digital Key 2.0 Touch4, which via NFC on a smartphone enables you to open the doors, as well as start the car, while your phone is on the front wireless charging pads. And to cap it off, the ELEXIO also has Over-the-Air (OTA) software update functionality.

Equipment is generous

Hyundai has ensured the ELEXIO is a comfortable and convenient car to drive, with standard equipment across both the ELEXIO and ELEXIO Elite including LED headlights and taillights, rain sensing windscreen wipers, dual-zone climate control with heat pump, wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, embedded satellite-navigation, AM/FM and digital radio bands and six-speaker audio. And if you fancy some luxury extras then the Elite adds 20-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, a smart power tailgate, leather-appointed and heated/ventilated front seats, a driver’s seat with 14-way power adjustment with memory, side bolster and lumbar adjust, a four-way power adjusted passenger seat, a heated leather steering wheel and two wireless charging pads. Phew, that’s a lot of stuff.

Family-first practicality

Because EV powertrains are so compact, smart automotive designers can exploit their small size to create maximum space inside the cabin, and that’s precisely what Hyundai’s designers have done here. The ELEXIO measures a modest 4615mm long, and yet it comfortably fits taller people in the rear seat, offering both generous headroom and kneeroom. The expansive space continues to the boot, where 506 litres of space grows to a commodious 1540 litres with the second row of seats split-folded. But it’s not only real estate that’s generous, the ELEXIO truly shines when it comes to the details too, with USB-C ports at both the front and rear, plenty of cupholders and lots of pockets and bins to help stow away your gear safely and securely.

The full service

There’s more to buying a car than just the price, its equipment and how it drives. It’s also about the back-up you get after driving away from the dealer. Fortunately, when you buy an ELEXIO, you’re also gaining outstanding aftersales support, such as Hyundai’s new seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty and capped price servicing. It’s a comprehensive package provided through a vastly knowledgeable dealer network and backed up by Hyundai’s decades of experience in Australia.
