First look! 2025 MG ZS Hybrid+ previewed ahead of Q4 touchdown, but will the budget-friendly SUV outclass the Hyundai Kona?

The 2025 MG ZS has been teased for the first time online to build anticipation for its full unveil on August 26, ahead of deliveries kicking off in the last three months of this year.

Posting the first image of the all-new second-generation MG ZS HEV to its social media channels, we get our first glimpse of the electrified top-selling small SUV that looks like it will abandon the current car’s anonymous styling for a sharper design shared with the latest MG HS and smaller MG3 hatch.

A second short video clip goes on to expose the ZS hybrid’s tail lamps and its rear bumper that includes dual exhaust tips.

No pics have been released on how MG plans to upgrade the MG ZS’ cabin, but from earlier spy shots we know there will be an interior dominated by a larger infotainment system and a sportier squared-off multi-function steering wheel.

As well as the usual naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.5-litre, the headline news is the MG ZS HEV will come with an advanced new hybrid that blends a 75kW petrol engine and a 100kW electric motor.

Expected to be badged the MG ZS Hybrid+, expect total output of the electrified small SUV to exceed 158kW, channelling all its might to the front wheels via a new three-speed automatic.

With the electrified powertrain onboard, the MG ZS could provide a cost-effective challenger to the Hyundai Kona Hybrid, Toyota Corolla Cross and CH-R, or even the Nissan QASHQAI E-Power.

Fresh tech set to be introduced on the MG ZS range includes an advanced autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system that’s currently lacking on the base model, plus new infotainment and other useful driver assist features, plus a 360-degree camera view.

With the classier looks, extra safety kit and more sophisticated hybrid powertrain MG hope the more modern ZS will remain a firm best-seller.

For the last three years the MG ZS has been Australia’s most popular small SUV, out-selling the Mazda CX-3. What could dampen its chances are expected price rises across the range that is likely to see the cheapest base MG ZS to be no longer priced from just $22,990 drive-away.

Boosting its fortunes Down Under, MG Australia has recently introduced a market-leading 10-year/250,000km warranty across its line-up that includes the all-electric MG4 and MG ZS EV.
