MG S6 EV Aussie price and specs announced: New Tesla Model Y rivals offers more than 500km of range for under $50K
MG has confirmed pricing and specification details for its new MGS6 EV mid-size SUV ahead of its Australian showroom arrival, with the new electric SUV undercutting key rivals including the Tesla Model Y by thousands of dollars.
Priced from $49,990 drive-away for the rear-wheel-drive Essence and $56,990 drive-away for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Essence, the MGS6 EV becomes another aggressively priced entrant in Australia’s increasingly crowded electric SUV segment.
The new MG sits above the recently launched MGS5 EV in the brand’s expanding electric vehicle line-up and arrives as a direct rival for vehicles such as the Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Xpeng G6 and Geely EX5.

The MGS6 EV is a larger, more premium-focused SUV than the MGS5 EV, measuring 4708mm long, 1912mm wide and 1664mm tall.
Both variants are powered by a 77kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery pack built on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform architecture.
MG says the rear-wheel-drive Essence produces 180kW and 350Nm, while offering a WLTP driving range of up to 530km. The dual-motor AWD delivers 266kW and 540Nm, with a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.1 seconds and a WLTP range of 485km.
The rear-wheel-drive model completes the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 7.3 seconds. Both variants have a top speed of 200km/h.
Both variants support DC fast charging at up to 144kW, with MG claiming a 10-80 per cent recharge can be completed in 38 minutes using a 150kW charger. An 11kW onboard AC charger is also standard.
The MGS6 EV also offers towing capability uncommon among some mid-size EV SUVs, with MG quoting a 1500kg braked towing capacity and 750kg unbraked rating.
The MGS6 EV uses a MacPherson strut front suspension and five-link rear suspension setup, while both variants ride on 20-inch alloy wheels with aerodynamic wheel caps.
Inside, the MGS6 EV features a 12.8-inch central touchscreen paired with a 10.25-inch digital driver display, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a cooled 50W wireless phone charger, head-up display, satellite navigation and MG’s iSmart connected services.
Other standard equipment includes heated and ventilated front seats, heated outer rear seats, dual-zone climate control, vegan leather and suede upholstery, ambient lighting and an 11-speaker audio system with subwoofer.
The AWD also adds a panoramic glass roof with electric sunshade.
Boot space is listed at 581 litres, expanding to 1690 litres with the rear seats folded. MG has also included a front storage compartment, with the rear-wheel-drive model offering an 86-litre frunk and the AWD featuring a slightly smaller 67-litre version.
Safety equipment includes MG Pilot driver assistance technology with adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, driver monitoring and a 360-degree camera system. Seven airbags are also fitted as standard.
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability is standard across the range, along with a heat pump, one-pedal driving mode and adjustable regenerative braking settings.
The MGS6 EV is backed by MG’s seven-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, with the brand also continuing its service-activated extended warranty program that can extend coverage to 10 years or 250,000km.
Australian deliveries begin immediately.
