Jaguar’s radical new EV named: Production badge is the least outrageous bit of this Rolls-Royce-rivalling limo
The controversial all-electric Jaguar has a new name after the British car-maker revealed its dramatic four-door limo will be called the Jaguar Type 01 when the production version launches later this year.
Replacing the Type 00 placeholder, the ‘Type’ prefix continues the naming structure first employed back in 1951 for the Le Mans 24 Hours-winning C-Type.
Iconic Jags like the E-Type and D-Type followed, while more recently the F-Type coupe and roadster revived the familiar Type name.

The ‘0’ is said to denote zero tailpipe emissions, while the ‘1’ signifies the first car in Jaguar’s new era.
The JLR-owned brand has yet to announce exactly when it will unveil the new Type 01, but the car-maker has confirmed it will come with a triple-motor all-electric powertrain producing 736kW and 1300Nm of torque.

With a battery pack of around 120kWh, the large 5200mm-long Jaguar is expected to offer a WLTP driving range of 692km, with engineers believed to be pushing for the final homologated version to cover up to 700km on a single charge, even on its huge standard 23-inch alloy wheels.
Thanks to 800-volt electrics and a 350kW peak charging rate, future owners will be able to add more than 320km of range in less than 15 minutes.
Jaguar has already revealed the new Type 01 will measure just 1400mm tall and feature a massive 3200mm wheelbase, providing plenty of legroom for rear occupants.
Maximising interior space, the Jag limo splits its battery pack in two, carving out room for passengers’ feet in the second row while allowing the driver and front passenger seats to be mounted low in the car for a sporty driving position.

Set to star, albeit in camouflaged form, at this weekend’s Monaco E-Prix on May 16, the Jaguar Type 01 will be officially launched later this year.
In the UK, the Jaguar Type 01 is predicted to be priced at around £130,000 (A$240,000) as bosses shift focus from chasing volume to maximising profits.
