Fisker announces three more EVs

Having pumped up his Ocean SUV, EV entrepreneur Henrik Fisker has declared his intention to add a further three electric vehicles to his start-up’s model range by 2025.

Or should that be four vehicles, as the Ocean isn’t scheduled to go into production until 2022.

The additional models announced by Fisker Inc. are a crossover, the Alaska pick-up and a sports sedan based on the 2017 E-Motion concept.

In exciting news for Australia, Henrik Fisker said right-hand drive versions would be developed “ASAP”, which logically means we will be a sales market.

Fisker this week announced it had received 7062 pre-orders for its Ocean from more than 30 countries. As with Tesla, what classifies as an order is a small refundable deposit, in this case US$250 ($360).

All four new Fisker vehicles are shown in an image shared by Fisker, although the Alaska is under a cover.

An undisguised shot of the Tesla Cybertruck rival was tweeted earlier this year, before being removed from the web.

“Each of these vehicles will have their unique character, moving away from the auto industry convention of creating similar products just in different sizes,” a Fisker Inc. media post stated.

“We will shake up each product segment we enter with incredible emotional design, radical new features and a unique customer experience, all of which will set Fisker’s vehicles and service apart from the what is available in the market. Thank you for joining us on the journey to a clean future for all!”

As we’ve previously reported, much remains unresolved about Fisker’s bid to get to production despite the founder’s typically bullish enthusiasm.

Most importantly, a reverse-merger float on the New York stock exchange is planned for October that is forecast to generate the $1.1 billion critical to getting the Ocean into production.

Fisker has previously tweeted the Ocean will be based on Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular EV architecture, but a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday (US time) confirmed no deal had been done.

“We have not achieved our goal of signing a cornerstone agreement with VW by the end of July 2020 as we previously anticipated,” Fisker said in the filing. “We look forward to continuing discussions with VW again in September after the traditional European summer holidays.”

“We remain in conversation with several other potential (automakers) and suppliers that would be able to fit within our unique business model and we believe will enable us to enter into definitive manufacturing and supply agreements before year-end,” the company added.

In the announcement of the model roll-out here was no mention of which order the vehicles would come in after the Ocean, but the first will arrive in 2023.

There was also a hint the crossover would be pitched at a lower price than its US$37,499 ask ($52,000 approx).

The Ocean is a five-seat 4.6m wagon that will be come in both rear and all-wheel drive. It will offer up to 225kW of power, a claimed 480km range and a vegan interior.

In the US the Fikser Ocean will also be offered with contract-free leasing and on subscription.
