Twinning is winning: New 2024 Audi Q6 e-tron co-developed with the Porsche Macan unwrapped ahead of 2025 Australian launch

The all-new 2024 Audi Q6 e-tron that was developed alongside the Macan has been fully unveiled and the big news is the more affordable Audi doesn’t miss out on any of the mid-size Porsche SUV’s advanced tech.

The Q6 e-tron is locked in for an Australian launch but local timing has yet to be revealed. The best scenario is early 2025.

We’ll have to wait a little longer until Australian pricing has been revealed but in Europe, ahead of its launch in Q3 of 2024, Audi has revealed the Q6 e-tron range will kick off at €74,700 ($124,000) for the base dual-motor model that will increase to €93,800 ($156,000) for the SQ 6 e-tron.

When it arrives here the Audi will feature the same 800-volt electrical architecture that will provide ultra-fast charging at up to 270kW, enabling a 10-80 per cent top-up to be completed in as little as 21 minutes.

Better still, a splash and dash charge can add up to 255km in 10 minutes, while its large 100kWh lithium-ion battery will see the new Audi Q6 cover up to 625km on a single charge.

AC charging, meanwhile, can be done up to 11kW.

Based on the Volkswagen Group’s most advanced PPE architecture that was jointly developed by Porsche and Audi, the base Audi Q6 e-tron will come with a dual-motor powertrain that will produce 285kW and provide for all-wheel drive.

Even the most affordable version will offer brisk pace, with 0-100km/h taking just 5.9 seconds, while top speed is 210km/h.

The faster Audi SQ 6 e-tron turns up the wick with its dual-motors kicking out a punchier 380kW (in boost mode) which drops the 0-100km/h sprint to just 4.3 sec, while its top speed climbs to 230km/h.

Those outputs are impressive but still a little way off the base Macan 4 (300kW overboost) and the Macan Turbo that on overboost can muster as much as 470kW for a 0-100km/h dash of just 3.3 seconds.

Later on, a single-motor Q6 e-tron will rock-up at a more tempting price point with greater efficiency and an even longer range expected.

Measuring in at 4771mm long, 1993mm wide and standing 1648mm tall, with a 2899mm wheelbase, the new Q6 e-tron dwarfs the combustion-powered Audi Q5.

Space within is generous and the boot is large at 526 litres. It expands to 1529 litres if you drop the second row of seats. Up front the Audi mid-sizer also benefits from a 64 litre frunk.

Inside, the Audi Q6 e-tron’s cabin is dominated by a new free-standing panoramic display that combines an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a huge 14.5-inch infotainment screen.

Ahead of the driver is a further 10.9-inch display. Other new tech includes a self-learning onboard assistant and a powerful 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.

To reduce its environmental impact Audi says it has used extensive recycled materials.
