Audi Q4 e-tron is double trouble for Tesla Model Y arriving in 2024

Audi has confirmed it will add the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron compact electric SUVs to its local line-up in mid-2024.

The Q4 line-up will be the most affordable models in the German luxury brand’s local EV line-up.

It will start under the federal government’s $89,332 fringe benefits tax EV exemption threshold.

It will line up against the likes of the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

The Q4s coming to Australia will include suspension revisions, more power and improved efficiency that improves range between recharging.

A variety of Q4 models are expected in Australia, including the single-motor rear-drive 210kW/545Nm Q4 45 e-tron and a dual-motor 250kW Q4 55 e-tron quattro.

The Q4 e-tron will also come to Australia with an updated 77kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

“It’s really important for us,” Audi Australia product planning boss Peter Strudwicke told EVCentral.

“It’s obviously going to give us a more affordable entry point to electrification for Audi.

“We expect to do reasonable volumes. It’s not regarded as a niche for us.”

Roughly the same size as the orthodox Audi Q3 compact SUV, the Q4 e-tron is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB dedicated EV architecture.

MEB also underpins the Volkswagen ID.4, Skoda Enyaq, Cupra Born and upcoming Volkswagen ID. Buzz.
