More Hummer EV details revealed: 745kW 4X4 now days away from debut

Fresh details about the new GMC Hummer EV have been revealed as the countdown to the 745kW 4X4’s official reveal continues.

International reporting now points to GM’s reborn Hummer models now being revealed in full on October 20 in the USA, with order books to open that same day.

Like Tesla and its Cybertruck, GM will allow its customers to make relatively paltry deposits, with just $US100 enough to put your name in the queue.

According to reporting in America’s Automotive News, the Hummer range will be offered in four trim levels, with production due to commence around September of 2021.

The vehicle reveal will be streamed on social media platform Twitch, with the brand hoping to attract a younger audience that will help shift its image from the petrol-hungry Hummers of old to clean and green EVs.

“The Hummer EV is really going to change that (image) because of the level of technology, the level of innovation and the fact that it’s all-electric, zero emissions,” GMC’s VP of marketing, Phil Brook, told the site.

“This is more than just a new vehicle for GMC. It really does signal us entering into the EV market in a big way.”

To be offered in truck and SUV guises, the GMC Hummer will ride on GM’s BEV3 modular EV platform, and will use GM’s Ultium batteries, which range in size from 50kWh to 200kWh

But perhaps the biggest news surrounds its outputs, with the Hummer promising to deliver some 745kW of power. That will make it plenty fast, too, with GMC claiming a sprint to 96km/h in just 3.0secs.

It will also be fitted with ‘Adrenalin’ and ‘Crab’ modes, the former of which promises to deliver on-road pace, with the latter an off-road function that should allow the Hummer to do tighter turns.

All will be revealed in mere days now, but what will remain a mystery is the Hummer’s potential for Australia. With Holden having packed up and the HSV-replacing GMSV brand only now revving up, Hummer Down Under remains very much unconfirmed.
