Tesla Model Y seven-seater deliveries to begin in December: Elon Musk

Production will begin on a seven-seat version of the Tesla Model Y “next month”, with deliveries to commence internationally in December, according to company CEO Elon Musk.

Like most Tesla announcements, the news of the model Model Y’s impending launch came via a tweet from Musk, who wrote “starting production on seven-seater next month, initial deliveries early December.”

Tesla is yet to fully detail the three-row Model Y, outside of promising it will carry “seven adults” and cost around US$3000 more than the five-seat car. The brand’s Australian website has been updated with news of the seven-seat vehicle, suggesting a local launch is a lock, too.

To be available in Performance (unlocking a 3.7 second sprint to 100km/h) or Long Range (with a 505km WLTP range), the Model Y has dual motors and AWD. It was expected to arrive in Australia in late 2020, but is now more likely for some time in 2021.
