Is this the best electric people-mover on the planet? Full 2027 Mercedes-Benz VLE specs confirmed
Full production specification for the 2027 Mercedes-Benz VLE all-electric people-mover have been announced as it closes on global launch, confirming powertrain details, efficiency figures and a future entry-level battery option.
The new information strengthens the VLE’s credentials as one of the world’s most advanced electric people movers, with official energy consumption as low as 18.4kWh/100km despite offering seating for up to eight people and more than 700km of WLTP driving range.
First revealed in March, the VLE has now been detailed in production form, with Mercedes-Benz confirming the entry-level VLE 300 will be powered by a 203kW front-mounted electric motor, while the flagship VLE 400 4MATIC gains a second rear motor for a combined 310kW and a claimed 0-100km/h time of 6.5 seconds.

Both models use a 115kWh usable nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery and the brand’s new 800-volt electrical architecture.

Mercedes-Benz says the VLE 300 will travel more than 700km on the WLTP test cycle, while DC charging at more than 300kW can add up to 355km of driving range in just 15 minutes under ideal conditions.
The company has also confirmed two more affordable variants powered by an 80kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery will join the range during 2027.
The VLE measures 5309mm long and is based on Mercedes-Benz’s new dedicated Van Architecture, which has been developed exclusively for electric people movers and commercial vehicles.

A longer 5484mm version has also been confirmed for launch in 2027.
Depending on seating configuration, luggage capacity reaches almost 800 litres, expanding to 4078 litres with the removable rear seats taken out.
The VLE’s new “Roll & Go” seating system allows manually operated seats to slide, fold and roll out of the vehicle on integrated wheels, while electrically adjustable seats can be repositioned remotely using either the infotainment system or a smartphone app.
Mercedes-Benz has also detailed the VLE’s chassis technology, with standard rear-wheel steering turning the rear wheels by up to seven degrees to reduce the turning circle to just 10.9 metres — comparable to many medium-sized passenger cars.

Optional AIRMATIC air suspension can automatically lower the vehicle at highway speeds to improve efficiency or raise it by up to 40mm for additional ground clearance on rougher roads.
Inside, the VLE adopts the latest MB.OS operating system and fourth-generation MBUX infotainment, including an optional Superscreen spanning the dashboard and a retractable 31.3-inch 8K rear entertainment display.
More than 40 connected apps will be available, while the AI-powered virtual assistant combines technologies from ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing.

The people mover has also been engineered with future software upgrades in mind. Every VLE is equipped with 10 cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors connected to a central high-performance computer, allowing additional driver assistance features to be activated over the air after purchase.
Expected to arrive in Australia during 2027, the VLE will compete with models including the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, while also taking aim at emerging luxury electric people movers from Chinese brands such as the Zeekr 009 and Xpeng X9.
Mercedes-Benz is positioning the VLE as a premium “Grand Limousine”, combining limousine-like ride comfort with the versatility of a large MPV.
