GWM Haval H6GT upgraded: Swoopy PHEV coupe gets an all-paw overhaul

GWM has updated its Haval H6GT plug-in hybrid for 2026, introducing new Hi4 all-wheel-drive technology, a significantly upgraded interior and improved performance, while retaining the coupe-style SUV’s existing exterior design.

Priced from $52,990 drive-away (it was $53,990 d/a at launch in 2025), the revised H6GT PHEV’s changes are led by the introduction of GWM’s new Hi4 (Hybrid Intelligent 4WD) system, which includes a more sophisticated dual-motor electric all-wheel drive designed to optimise traction, efficiency and performance by continuously distributing torque between the front and rear axles.

The updated powertrain delivers a combined 321kW and 642Nm (down from 762Nm), enabling a claimed 0-100km/h time of just 4.6 seconds. It is paired with an unchanged 35.43kWh battery.

Claimed ranges and consumption are in the usual highly theoretical PHEV zone. Electric-only driving range is up to 183km (NEDC), alongside a combined driving range of up to 1183km and fuel consumption of just 0.6L/100km (NEDC).

GWM says the Hi4 system is designed to prioritise electric driving where possible, while seamlessly blending petrol and electric power when required, improving both efficiency and real-world usability compared to the outgoing AWD set-up.

Inside, the H6GT PHEV has received an overhaul, bringing its cabin into line with the wider H6 range. A more minimalist layout is headlined by a new 14.6-inch infotainment display running GWM’s latest Coffee OS, which delivers faster processing speeds and a more intuitive interface.

The updated system integrates core vehicle functions, connectivity and entertainment, and now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A column-mounted gear selector has also been introduced, freeing up space on the centre console and allowing for additional storage and a dedicated wireless charging pad.

Material quality and overall presentation have also been improved, with suede-appointed seats featuring ‘GT’ embossing adding a sportier feel to the cabin.

Despite the significant mechanical and interior upgrades, the H6GT retains its familiar coupe-inspired exterior styling, which is definitely something different in the boxy SUV wagon-dominated segment.

Since its launch, the H6GT PHEV has gained traction in Australia, with electrified variants now accounting for more than half of H6GT sales (there is also a petrol version), highlighting growing demand for plug-in hybrid SUVs in the local market.
