Genesis GV60 Magma priced and specced for Australia: 478kW performance EV hot hatch is more expensive than Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N

The new 478kW Genesis GV60 Magma has arrived in Australia priced from $130,000 before on-road costs, establishing a new performance flagship for the Korean luxury brand’s all-electric SUV range.

Available now in a single highly equipped specification, the GV60 Magma is the first production model launched under Genesis’ new high-performance Magma banner and costs $50,000 more than the recently introduced entry-level GV60.

It is also priced $15,000 above the closely related Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and new Ioniq 6 N, both of which cost $115,000 before on-road costs, although the Genesis counters with a more luxurious cabin, additional comfort and refinement features and a more comprehensive ownership package.

The GV60 Magma is powered by dual electric motors producing a combined 448kW and 740Nm in normal driving.

Activating Boost Mode lifts outputs to 478kW and 790Nm for around 15 seconds, allowing the all-wheel-drive EV to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds using launch control.

Genesis also claims a 10.9-second 0-200km/h time and a 264km/h top speed.

Power comes from an 84kWh battery, although the Australian press material does not quote an official driving range or charging performance.

Beyond the extra power, Genesis says the Magma has undergone substantial chassis development compared with the regular GV60.

The suspension geometry and roll centres have been revised, while stroke-sensing electronically controlled suspension, end-of-travel control, new front hydraulic bushings and dual-layer rear crossmember bushings have been introduced.

Braking is handled by 400mm front and 360mm rear discs, with monoblock calipers and a high-performance ABS calibration.

Genesis claims the GV60 Magma can stop from 100km/h in 33.8 metres, while braking performance at high speeds is increased by around 15 per cent when Sport Mode is selected.

There are three main drive modes – Sprint, GT and customisable MY – plus an electronic limited-slip differential and Drift Mode that alters power distribution and e-LSD operation to enable more rear-biased driving.

Like the Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N, the GV60 Magma also features a Virtual Gear Shift system that alters motor output, torque and regenerative braking to simulate the operation of a combustion-powered performance car.

Artificial high-revving engine sounds accompany the simulated gear changes.

A High-Performance Battery Control system manages battery temperature for sustained performance during track driving and standing-start acceleration runs.

Visually, the GV60 Magma is distinguished from the regular electric SUV by a lower and wider stance, redesigned front and rear bumpers, front canards, aerodynamic side skirts and a new rear spoiler and diffuser.

It rides on 21-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in 275mm Pirelli P Zero tyres.

Inside, there are power-adjustable bucket seats and extensive use of suede-like Chamude trim, while a Magma-specific steering wheel incorporates dedicated drive mode and Boost buttons.

A 27-inch OLED display combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, while activating Magma Mode introduces a three-dial performance display showing information including motor and battery temperatures, speed and G-force.

Standard equipment also includes a head-up display, 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, active road noise cancellation, a digital rear-view mirror, Digital Key 2.0 and vehicle-to-load capability.

The GV60 Magma also comes with the regular Genesis ownership package, including a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty for privately owned vehicles and five years or 75,000km of complimentary scheduled servicing.

Genesis To You concierge and courtesy vehicle services are included for five years, while roadside assistance can extend to 10 years if the vehicle continues to be serviced by Genesis.

Matte paint is the only priced option, adding $4000.

The Genesis GV60 Magma is available in Australia now from $130,000 before delivery and on-road costs.
