BYD Denza Z sports car debuts: Preposterously powerful and fast coupe and convertible on the way

BYD has confirmed the production version of its Porsche-targeting Denza Z electric sports car will make its global debut at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with the Chinese brand promising up to 1179kW and a top speed of 350km/h.

The Denza Z Coupe will be unveiled alongside an even more extreme Denza Z Racing variant, headlining an eight-model showcase across the BYD, Denza and Yangwang brands at the famous British event.

The production 2+2 Z flagship follows last year’s dramatic Denza Z Coupe concept reveal at the Shanghai auto show.

BYD openly benchmarked this car against the Porsche 911 Turbo, signalling its ambition to compete at the highest end of the electric performance car market.

The Denza Z Spider convertible followed up with its debut at the 2026 Beijing auto show.

While BYD is yet to reveal complete technical specifications, it says the Z Coupe shares its electric drivetrain with the Z Spider concept revealed last year at Auto China, using a three-motor layout capable of producing up to 1179kW and propelling the car to a claimed 350km/h.

Unlike many exotic electric supercars, BYD says the Z Coupe has been designed with everyday usability in mind, combining its performance credentials with a 2+2 seating layout and a practical boot.

The more focused Denza Z Racing takes things a step further, adding an extensive carbon-fibre aerodynamic package intended to maximise downforce for circuit driving.

Although BYD has yet to disclose full chassis details for the production car, the Z is expected to retain much of the advanced technology previewed by the concept, including the company’s latest DiSus intelligent suspension system and steer-by-wire technology.

The Denza Z headlines a major Goodwood presence for BYD Group, which says it will display eight new vehicles across its BYD, Denza and Yangwang brands on what it claims is the largest manufacturer stand in the Festival of Speed’s history.

Australian timing for the production Denza Z has yet to be confirmed, although regional Denza chief Mark Harland has previously made it clear that he wants to add a sports car to the emerging premium brand’s local line-up.

Denza currently sells the B5 and B8 PHEV SUVs in Australia and has recently added the D9 electric people mover. It will soon launch the Z9GT high performance passenger car here as well.
