2025 Leapmotor B10 – is this Australia’s cheapest electric SUV?
Stellantis-backed Leapmotor has pulled the drapes off what’s set to become its best-selling model yet, the small Leapmotor B10 SUV that’s set to be on sale globally by late 2025.
Created to steal sales from compact SUVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia EV3 and cars like the Jeep Avenger, the new Leapmotor B10 slots into the Chinese brand’s EV line-up to sit above the T03 city car but below the C10 that launches in Australia next month and the flagship three-row C16 that might follow later.
Based on the all-new LEAP 3.5 platform, which offers advanced driverless tech and super-fast 800-volt charging architecture, Leapmotor has confirmed that the B10 will be offered with both all-electric power and a range-extender hybrid, that will use a small 1.5-litre petrol engine as a generator for long range driving.
Full details will come later so it’s not known if the B10 will get all the tech the LEAP 3.5 platform offers or if its will only come with the slower charging 400-volt electronics.
Borrowing its smart, sleek looks from the bigger C10, the new baby Leapmotor SUV gets a slim front and rear lightbar, pop-out door handles and smooth styling.
Inside, it’s thought the B10 will have a cabin that mirrors the C10’s, with large screens that dominate the interior.
When it arrives on sale in Europe the B10 will be priced below €30,000 ($A48,500) but in Australia expect it to be even cheaper with prices set to even potentially dip below $45,000, around what BYD charges for its updated Atto 3.
In Australia, the Leapmotor brand has high hopes for rapid expansion thanks to a $2.5b investment from Stellantis that will see its first vehicle, the cut-price C10 sold, serviced and maintained via the car giant’s Jeep franchise.
