UPDATE: Ford Mustang Mach-E now cheaper as Q4 Australian launch nears
The Ford Mustang Mach-E will bring a price tag befitting its muscle car image – and well above key rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Though that price is now slightly cheaper for two of the Mach-E’s three trim levels, with slight savings owing to a change in Luxury Car Tax.
The all-new electric SUV that borrows its names from one of Ford’s most famous models will still be priced from $79,990 before on-road costs.
The most affordable of the three models in the Mach-E range is the Select.

The Mustang Mach-E Select is $79,990 plus on-road costs. It gets a 71kWh lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery; that’s the same chemistry used in the top-selling EVs in the country, including the BYD Atto 3 and single-motor versions of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.
LFP batteries are typically used because they are more affordable to manufacture and use no – or little – nickel and cobalt.
In the Mustang Mach-E Select the LFP battery is hooked up to a 198kW/430Nm electric motor driving the rear wheels and providing a claimed WLTP range of 470km.
There’s loads of standard equipment to help justify the price, including a 360-degree camera, Bang & Olufsen sound system with subwoofer, wireless phone charging, fake leather trim, full length sunroof, 19-inch wheels and a huge 15.5-inch central touchscreen (half an inch larger than that on Teslas).
A better-equipped Mustang Mach-E Premium is now $91,665 and adds LED headlights, adjustable ambient lighting and various trim changes, including red stitching and a black headliner. The Mach-E Premium also gets a larger 91kWh battery pack with the more common NMC battery chemistry. It has a claimed WLTP range of 600km and ups the peak power to 216kW while retaining the same 430Nm torque peak.
Those wanting a dual-motor all-wheel drive will have to stump up for the Mustang Mach-E GT, which is now $107,665 before on-road costs.
It uses the same 91kWh battery but adds a front motor for combined peak outputs of 358kW and 860Nm.
The Mustang Mach-E GT is claimed to reach 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and has a WLTP range of 490km.
The Mach-E GT also gets adjustable dampers with the MagneRide Active Suspension system that can adjust 1000 times a second depending on road conditions, driving style and the selected drive mode.
Adding to the GT’s dynamic talents are Brembo front brakes, sportier front seats, unique trim materials and 20-inch wheels with Pirelli tyres.
