This electric SUV could have been a Holden

Once upon a time this small electric vehicle could have been sold in Australia as a Holden Trax.

But we still might see it here badged as the Opel Mokka, just as it is in Europe.

Opel was owned by General Motors as now-defunct Holden was. A lot of Opels were rebadged as Holdens through the years including the last Commodore.

But GM sold Opel to PSA (Peugeot Citroen) in 2017 and closed Holden down in early 2020.

Now there’s chat PSA might return Opel to Australia as soon as 2022 – it was sold here for just one year in 2012-13 alongside Holden – and a compact electric SUV like the Mokka would make plenty of sense.

The battery electric version of this midget SUV will be offered alongside orthodox petrol and diesel versions in Europe from early 2021, hence the lairy pic to disguise its still secret styling.

The BEV is expected to come with a 50kWh lithium-ion battery, a 100kW motor and offer a 310km WLTP range.
