Evie plans additional 55 fast charging stations for rural Victoria

Evie Networks has announced new public EV fast charging stations in 55 towns and communities throughout rural and regional Victoria.

The 55 Tritium 50kW fast chargers, expected to be operational by mid-2023, will add to the already operational 20 charge stations installed and operated by Evie in 20 regional towns throughout the Loddon-Mallee and Hume regions. Evie Networks told EVCentral it currently operates a total of 58 charging sites across Australia, each typically equipped with two fast (50kW) or ultra-fast (350kW) EV chargers.

An Evie spokesperson told EVCentral that thanks to funding support enabling it to expand its network, Evie expected “the next two years will see our network grow to more than 600 fast and ultra-fast chargers throughout Australia.”

Funding comes from Federal and state governments and a $100 million commitment from the St Baker Energy Innovation Fund.

Last year Evie announced plans to install more than 300 50kW Tritium fast chargers at 158 locations around Australia while claiming to be building the largest fast charging network in the country.

The 55 new stations are being co-funded by the Victorian Government, with Evie claiming the recent funding boost would see Victoria become “one of the best-populated charging infrastructure states in Australia.”

Evie says the grant funding is $2,972,972.97 and it has placed a multi-million-dollar order for the supply of fast-charging equipment with Brisbane-based Tritium.

The 50kW Tritium fast chargers are powered by 100% renewable energy. Depending on your vehicle, 50km of range can be added in approximately 10 minutes using a 50kW charger.

Evie Networks CEO Chris Mills said: “No matter where you live, everyone should be confident enough to buy an EV because they have access to reliable fast charging – not just city dwellers.

“The Federal Government’s Future Fuels Fund program will provide excellent coverage in high population metropolitan areas, and the Victorian Government’s Destination Charging Across Victoria program will ensure regional communities will also enjoy strong EV charging coverage so they aren’t left behind.”
