2026 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid Review: Australia’s cheapest hybrid SUV delivers big value, but there are compromises
In an era of runaway fuel prices he 2026 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid has become one of Australia’s strongest small SUV value plays.
Yes there are cheaper ICE Tiggo 4 models, but hybrid power that adds improved fuel efficiency and smoother drivability to an already sharp value equation.
The headline act is the Tiggo 4 Hybrid Urban, which at $29,990 drive-away is among Australia’s cheapest hybrids and putting discount deals aside, the very cheapest hybrid SUV.
That’s significant in a market where electrified SUVs continue to gain momentum, especially as buyers chase lower running costs without stretching to a full EV.
The question is whether the Tiggo 4’s bargain pricing and generous equipment list are enough to offset some rough edges.
2026 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid price and equipment
The 2026 Tiggo 4 range consists of four variants split across petrol and hybrid drivetrains.
Hybrid versions start from $29,990 drive-away for the Urban and extend to $34,990 drive-away for the Ultimate.

The Tiggo 4 Hybrid Urban is Australia’s cheapest hybrid SUV at its recommended drive-away price, although temporary promotional offers have occasionally seen rivals such as the GWM Haval Jolion Hybrid dip below that figure.
Every Tiggo 4 hybrid gets dual 10.25-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED lighting, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control and seven airbags.
The Ultimate adds synthetic leather trim, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera and red brake calipers.
Unlike many budget-focused rivals, the Tiggo 4 doesn’t feel stripped bare in entry-level guise.
However, there’s no built-in satellite navigation, although wireless smartphone mirroring largely offsets that omission.

Safety equipment is extensive. The Tiggo 4 carries a five-star ANCAP safety rating from 2023 and comes standard with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-keep assist.
2026 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid: What we think
The hybrid is a more polished drivetrain than the cheaper ICE Tiggo 4.
It pairs a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for combined outputs of 150kW and 310Nm.
The e-motor fills in torque gaps nicely at lower speeds, making the hybrid smoother and more responsive in urban driving.
Fuel economy is another strong point. Chery claims 7.4L/100km for the petrol Tiggo 4 and 5.4L/100km for the hybrid. Real-world testing broadly reflected that advantage.

Ride and handling are less convincing. The Tiggo 4 can feel bouncy over rougher roads and steering is extremely light.
Front-wheel drive handling is secure enough but lacks the polish and body control delivered by more established rivals.
Still, it remains comfortable enough for everyday driving and road noise suppression is acceptable at this price point.
The problem with that extensive safety systems mentioned earlier is calibration.
Lane-keeping assistance can feel overly intrusive while the driver monitoring system is overly sensitive at times. Some owners will almost certainly disable some of those systems.
Inside, the Tiggo 4 presents well. The twin-screen dashboard layout and clean design help create a cabin ambience that feels more modern than the price tag suggests.
Material quality is mixed, with some hard plastics reminding you this is still a budget-focused SUV, but overall presentation is strong for the money.

Rear-seat accommodation is particularly impressive for a small SUV. There’s enough space for taller adults and boot space is competitive at 470 litres.
Storage throughout the cabin is also well considered, highlighted by the bridge-style centre console.
2026 Chery Tiggo 4: Verdict
The Tiggo 4 was already luring buyers before hybrid power launched.
The addition of the hybrid significantly strengthens the package.
It improves drivability, smoothness and fuel economy while maintaining a sharp drive-away price that undercuts virtually every mainstream hybrid SUV rival.

There are compromises. Ride quality could use more tuning, some of the driver-assistance systems need refinement and the cabin materials don’t completely hide the Tiggo 4’s budget positioning.
But viewed through the lens of value, the Tiggo 4 Hybrid makes a very strong case for itself.
If your priority is maximum equipment and efficiency for the least amount of money, it deserves a place high on the shortlist.
