Which brands make EVs?

Most car makers now produce hybrid, plug-in hybrid or pure electric models, although many of them aren’t sold in Australia.

This is because Australians typically aren’t prepared to pay the higher prices for EVs or heavily electrified vehicles such as PHEVs (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles).

The incentives introduced by many governments overseas, designed to encourage consumers to buy cleaner cars by making them cost competitive, haven’t been introduced here.

Still, we will see many more EVs and PHEVs offered in Australia. Hyundai and Toyota have also brought a limited number of hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles into Australia. All brands are expected to offer some electrified models by 2025.

And much more is coming. From Ford to Ferrari, car makers all over the world are working on new EVs and plug-in hybrids.
