Boot it! 2025 Volvo ES90 sedan teased as Swedish brand readies its BMW i5 and Tesla Model S fighter

Volvo has teased its new 2025 Volvo ES90 ahead of its official debut in March 2025, proving there’s plenty of life left in the humble sedan.

Not that the new Volvo ES90 is a traditional three-box sedan, with the first shadowy silhouette revealing more of a four-door coupe or fastback body style design.

Look closer and you might also spot a nifty roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, aping the latest EX90, that also has the same box of sensors needed for autonomous driving.

Behind the scenes it’s thought the ES90 was developed alongside the three-row luxury EX90 SUV.

We expect the ES90 to ride on the car-maker’s dedicated SPA2 electric architecture and come equipped with a large 111kWh battery pack that could provide a range of more than 700km in the lower more aerodynamic sedan – a big step up on the SUV’s 600km range.

While the base rear-wheel drive version is expected to be available with 210kW, fastest dual-motor versions will bag an all-wheel drive powertrain with either 300kW or 380kW for the Performance variant.

Tipped to measure in at 4990mm long, 1945mm wide and standing 1547mm tall, with a huge 3102mm wheelbase the ES90 will offer massive amounts of space within, matching larger limos, despite the fact it’s around 100mm shorter than the old combustion-powered S90.

Created to battle it out with the new Audi A6 e-tron, the BMW i5 and the Tesla Model S sold elsewhere the new Volvo ES90 should be offered in Australia despite the S90 being dropped back in 2019. Expect to see it in local dealerships in 2025.

Prepare yourself for more teases of the all-new Volvo ES90 in the build-up to its March 2025 debut.
