Downloadable Polestar 2 performance hike available for $1,600
What price an extra 50kW, 20Nm and your 0-100km/h dropping from 4.7 to 4.4 seconds? For Australian Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor customers, that’ll be $1,600 please.
The downloadable update has just been made available to Aussie owners via the Polestar Web Shop and will no doubt prove a popular birthday gift or stocking filler for the Polestar owner.
The kids getting Dad an extra 50kW for Christmas certainly beats a Polestar polo shirt.
In our story last year about the over-the-air upgrade we speculated it would cost in the region of $1,500 as it carried a €1000 fee in Europe. Let’s put the decided-upon $1,600 down to inflation.
Polestar Australia said over 1,000 owners in Europe had downloaded the performance-orientated software upgrade since it was offered in November 2021, suggesting the price is right.
The power and torque hikes see the dual-motor Polestar 2 realise 350kW and 680Nm as well as “additional responsiveness (which) also produces a sportier driving experience overall.”
Along with the 4.4 second 0-100km/h time, mid-range acceleration is also more rapid. Polestar says accelerating from 80 to 120km/h with the upgrade takes 2.2 seconds, which is half a second quicker than before.
The software update follows news earlier this month of aesthetic enhancements arriving on new Polestar 2s, plus price hikes of up to $4,000.
If you have an eligible Polestar 2 you can visit Polestar Extras in the web shop and, once handing over your hard-earned, perform a software download that’s then delivered remotely to your car via an over-the-air update.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO said: “The upgrade highlights how connected technologies can transform the relationship a car company has with its customers. The driving experience in Polestar 2 is something we are really proud of. It is such a fun car to drive already, but with this upgrade we can offer even more to our customers who might be after a little extra excitement.”
