Significant changes for Mini Countryman EV in Australia: Range and price boosted

MINI has increased the range of its electric Countryman models to as much as 501km WLTP, but Australian buyers will now pay significantly more to get behind the wheel of the brand’s electric SUV.

Alongside efficiency upgrades for the Countryman E and Countryman SE ALL4, MINI has deleted the entry-level Countryman E Core and increased prices across the remaining EV line-up.

The changes lift the starting price of the electric Countryman range by $4000, from $64,990 plus on-road costs to $68,990.

However, the good news is the Countryman E and Countryman SE ALL4 gain improved efficiency from new Silicon Carbide (SiC) inverter technology.

The new inverter is designed to improve energy conversion, power delivery and regenerative braking performance, boosting overall drivetrain efficiency. MINI says the upgrade should deliver the biggest real-world benefits in urban and stop-start driving conditions.

Updated WLTP range figures now stand at up to 501km for the front-wheel-drive Countryman E and up to 467km for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Countryman SE ALL4.

The Countryman E Classic now starts from $68,990 before on-road costs, up $1000, while the Countryman E Favoured rises by the same amount to $71,990. The Countryman SE ALL4 Classic increases to $73,990 and the Favoured to $76,990, while the flagship SE ALL4 JCW Sport jumps by $2000 to $79,990.

The electric vehicle changes headline a broader update to the Countryman range that also introduces 48-volt mild-hybrid technology across the petrol-powered Countryman C and Countryman S ALL4.

MINI says the mild-hybrid system can recover and redeploy energy during driving to improve both efficiency and drivability. The updates also bring the Countryman line-up into compliance with the latest EU6e emissions standards and WLTP certification requirements.

Pricing has increased across the petrol range as well. The entry-level Countryman C Core has been deleted, leaving the Classic as the new starting point at $54,490 before on-road costs, up $1500. The Countryman S ALL4 range also rises by $1500, while the S ALL4 JCW Sport increases by $2500.

The updated MINI Countryman range is available in Australia now.
