Plug-in play: Meet the Lamborghini Urus SE Performante, the plug-in hybrid V8 with more power than the old Aventador V12
Lamborghini has unleashed its hottest, most powerful take yet on the Lamborghini Urus SUV that blends near-supercar performance with a zero-emission range of up to 60km.
Featuring the Italian brand’s latest iteration of its plug-in hybrid powertrain, the new Lamborghini Urus SE Performante combines a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 and an eight-speed auto, with a large single e-motor and a 25.9kWh battery for an epic 596kW of power and 1000Nm of torque.
That power output is 107kW and 150Nm more than the old Performante, and provides for a blistering 0-100km/h sprint of just 3.3 seconds and a 312km/h top speed.

The extra power comes from a freer-flowing Akrapovic exhaust that is said to improve the V8 soundtrack and, combined with a new engine map, liberates the extra might, while shaving 10kg off the kerbweight.
Cutting more kilos is a bonnet, roof, side skirts and rear diffuser made of carbon-fibre, plus new electronics for the brake regen and stability control that shaves off 4kg alone.
Less sound deadening (-3kg) and ‘Corsa Tex’ Dinamica faux suede covering the seats save a further 2.7kg and contribute to a total 32kg weight loss for the Performante, compared to the standard Urus SE, that tips the scales at 2473kg.
More upgrades include lifting its advanced ‘6D’ chassis computer from the latest Temerario supercar that allows better management of the roll and pitch and drive associated with hard acceleration and braking.
The Performante’s transmission also sports new software that sharpens up its responses.
Enhancing stability at speed, the larger splitter, spoiler and side skirts, plus a new S-duct through the front bumper to minimise lift, sees downforce boosted by 23 per cent, while drag has been cut by 5 per cent.
Wider fresh air intakes in the bumper add extra cooling for the V8 and brakes.
To ramp up enjoyment behind the wheel, there’s a new Rally driving mode that has been calibrated for fast driving on dirt.
Maximising comfort is a dual-chamber air suspension and dual-valve adaptive dampers that replace the old car’s passive springs and active dampers, which, combined with the new 6D sensor, cuts body roll and are said to rid the Lambo SUV of up to 25 per cent of the old car’s vibrations.
Inside, the Performante bags twin 12.3-inch displays, while the centre console comes with physical toggle shortcuts, plus an aviation-inspired gear selector.
Now eight years old, the new powerful Urus Performante is expected to be among the final iterations of the Lamborghini SUV as the Italian firm puts the finishing touches to its all-new replacement that is due in 2029, which is tipped to continue to be powered by an even higher output plug-in hybrid V8.
