Triple threat! Genesis GV70 price and details as brand launches three EVs this month

Genesis has announced pricing for its Electrified GV70 battery electric SUV as September turns into a pivotal month for the Korean luxury brand’s Australian EV ambitions.

The GV70, which will come in as a single highly-specified $127,800 (plus on-road costs) model, will be in showrooms later this month.

It will follow in the wheels of the smaller GV60 SUV and the luxurious G80 large saloon, which are now entering the Hyundai-owned brand’s showrooms.

“We are immensely excited to introduce three new all-electric models this year, as the first realisation of our vision of creating a sustainable mobility future with electrification front and centre,” said Genesis Australia head Connal Yan.

“The arrival of the progressive Electrified GV70, along with the dedicated electric GV60 and Electrified G80, will represent an audacious stride into that future,” he said.

As previously announced, the GV60 will be available in two specs and priced from $103,700, while the G80 will be a single model priced from $145,000 before on-road costs.

The GV60 is a direct rival for the upper-end of the Tesla Model Y, the BMW iX3 and forthcoming Mercedes-Benz EQB. The G80 joins the Porsche Taycan as the only full-sized electric sedan currently on-sale in Australia (remembering the Tesla Model S isn’t available until 2023).

The Electrified GV70 lobs at a price significantly higher than first predicted a few months ago, but that’s the way of things with steepling new car costs these days.

It is nearly $43,000 above the most expensive GV70 ICE model, underlining what a tough road EVs have on pricing at the moment.

It will line up against the Audi e-tron, BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQC in the emerging large luxury electric SUV segment.

The GV70 comes with a twin-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that delivers up to 700Nm and 360kW and a claimed 4.2 sec 0-100km/h time. It can run in two or four-wheel drive.

The 77.4kWh battery delivers 445km of range according to WLTP and can recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 18 minutes employing its peak DC fast-charging rate. The GV70 has 400V/800V multi-rapid charging system, regenerative braking and one pedal driving.

Fitted standard with a Luxury Package trim, the Electrified GV70 comes with a suspension system that uses a camera to read the road and adjust for upcoming bumps and potholes.

Other more orthodox luxury items like Nappa leather seat trims, a sunroof, tri-zone climate control and a 14.5-inch high-def touchscreen display incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard. A full suite of driver assist safety systems are part of the package.

The GV70 also comes with interior and exterior vehicle to load function that supports a 3.6kW power supply.

Included in the purchase price is the choice of five-year Chargefox subscription or home AC charger and installation. An eight-year warranty is offered on the high-voltage battery. Matte paint is the only option.

Like the G80, the GV70 is based on a platform shared with its ICE brethren. The GV60 is the first Genesis model based on the Hyundai group’s dedicated E-GMP electric vehicle architecture, which also underpins the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 6.
