Geely Monjaro? Remember that name, because this big new family PHEV SUV is coming to Australia
Geely’s new Monjaro EM-i plug-in hybrid has begun its global rollout, with the large five-seat SUV expected to arrive in Australia in the first half of 2027.
The f9ve-seat SOV has launched in Egypt ahead of expansion into the UAE, Mexico and Kazakhstan, followed by the UK and Europe, as Geely pushes ahead with a rapid expansion of its international electrified vehicle range.
Australia isn’t officially on that list, but the timing and specification of the global model provide the strongest indication yet of what we can expect here.

Geely Australia has already confirmed a larger five-seat SUV is coming in the first half of 2027, with the Monjaro understood to be that model.
Importantly, the new international version is powered by Geely’s EM-i Super Hybrid plug-in hybrid system.
That makes the Monjaro EM-i an increasingly logical fit for Australia and appears to supersede earlier indications the local model could use Geely’s new i-HEV conventional hybrid system.
The Monjaro would sit above the Starray EM-i in Geely’s rapidly growing Australian SUV line-up and potentially take on electrified models including the BYD Sealion 6, Chery Tiggo 8 and Mazda CX-60.
At around 4.8 metres long with a 2845mm wheelbase, it is a substantial five-seat SUV that Geely is positioning further upmarket than its current Australian offerings.
The Monjaro name itself isn’t new. It has been used internationally since 2021 for the export version of the Chinese-market Xingyue L.
But the new Monjaro EM-i represents a significant technical change, moving from the previous CMA platform to Geely’s newer GEA Evo global intelligent new-energy architecture.
It combines Geely’s EM-i Super Hybrid system with a dedicated 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.
Three versions have been detailed for international markets, comprising front-wheel drive Pro and Max variants and an Ultra AWD flagship.
Geely has yet to release a complete set of battery, electric motor and system output specifications for the international Monjaro, but it claims the Ultra AWD can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.83 seconds.
The front-drive versions are claimed to consume as little as 5.4L/100km when operating with the battery at a low state of charge.
The Ultra also introduces Geely’s e-AWD intelligent electric all-wheel-drive system, designed to rapidly alter torque distribution in response to changing grip on wet, loose and uneven surfaces.
Continuous Damping Control electronically adjustable suspension is also offered.
Inside, the Monjaro features Geely’s Flyme Auto infotainment system and Flyme Sound audio, while available equipment includes a 540-degree camera system incorporating a so-called transparent chassis view.
Geely also claims the Monjaro EM-i can stop from 100km/h in 33 metres and has completed a moose-test manoeuvre at 79km/h.
The Monjaro is particularly significant for Australia because it forms part of a much broader Geely model offensive.
The Chinese giant has only recently relaunched here with the EX5 electric SUV and Starray EM-i PHEV, and has now added the budget-priced EX2 electric hatch.
At least six additional models are planned over the coming 12 months as Geely expands into new segments.
They include a seven-seat SUV, an electrified Emgrand sedan and a large rugged plug-in hybrid 4×4 expected to be the production version of the Galaxy Cruiser.
The Monjaro should slot between Geely’s existing mainstream SUVs and that larger off-roader.
