Ferrari to launch first super EV in 2025

Ferrari will soon have an EV.

The world’s most ferocious super car brand – and the operatic home of screaming V8 and V12 engines – has finally acknowledged the inevitable and announced that it will launch a full EV by 2025.

Ferrari boss John Elkann has pledged that this new, and no doubt quite terrifying, EV super car will “bring the uniqueness and passion” of the fabled Ferrari marque to new generations of buyers.

It’s been a badly kept secret for some time that Ferrari is working on a fully electric vehicle – its mad hybrid SF90 Stradale and SF90 Spider was merely the first step along that path – but the existence of such a car has finally been confirmed.

Speaking at Ferrari’s annual general meeting, Mr Elkann said the new model would break cover in 2025.

“You can be sure this will be everything you dream the engineers and designers at Maranello can imagine for such a landmark in our history,” he said.

“Our interpretation and application of these technologies both in motorsport and in road cars is a huge opportunity to bring the uniqueness and passion of Ferrari to new generations.”

He declined to add any detail about the car, which is rumoured to have all-wheel drive via an electric motor attached to each wheel, for maximum, face-squashing acceleration and grip.

Speaking to Autocar last year, Mr Elkann suggested Ferrari would not launch a BEV until electric tech had reached the point where Ferrari could  “build a car that fits with our position”.

“If we bring in new technology, then we need to bring something new to the market. That’s how Ferrari has always worked with new technology. The evolution of new technology is 100 percent in the DNA of Ferrari,” he added.
