Dark and stormy: Bollinger reveals Mad Max of EV delivery vans

As if mad delivery van drivers weren’t frightening enough already, a company with the highfalutin name of Bollinger Motors is about to launch the Mad Max of vans, the Deliver-E all-electric van, “perfectly suited to the delivery market”.

Yes, this does make you wonder about range, because delivery vans are on the go all day, pretty much non-stop, but any company smart enough to come up with a name like Deliver-E has obviously thought of that.

And vans do have plenty of room in the floor for batteries.

“We took our extensive Class 3 electrification knowledge and applied it to the delivery sector,” said Robert Bollinger, CEO of Bollinger Motors, which has already unleashed plans to create the wild B1 and B2 pickup trucks and SUV.

“Our Deliver-E van gives commercial fleets the power to go green and save on ownership costs, while neighbourhoods will benefit from a reduction in air and noise pollution.”

The front-wheel drive, all-electric platform will be engineered to fit in vans of various sizes and Bollinger claims the total cost of ownership will be significantly lower than petrol and diesel vans on the road today.

A wide selection of battery packs will be available, including 70, 105, 140, 175, and 210kWh.

Coupled with variable wheelbase lengths, the fleet customer will have a wide array of options to fit their specific needs.

The Deliver-E van employs the same major components — including motors, battery, inverters, and gearboxes — as the radical upcoming Bollinger B1 and B2 pickup trucks and SUV.

But it is based on a new platform created specifically to address the needs of delivery vans, including a low-load floor height and a high-strength steel frame.

Having so much weight down low in the vehicle (in batteries) has obvious benefits with stability and cornering.

So far, the van is at concept stage and Bollinger will work with a manufacturing partner to build the Deliver-E in the US, with production expected to start in 2022.

No word yet on whether Bollinger plans to brings its EVs to Australia, although the focus initially is on America.
