Australia’s electric Harley? EMoS to launch ‘WYLD’ chopper

Australia is about to be home to a new and all-electric “chopper”, with Brisbane EV firm EMoS to unveil an e-moped called WYLD on Wednesday.

But while the WYLD might well look wild, it’s unlikely to be the transport of choice for any one-percenters, given the e-moped’s top speed is just 50km/h.

While that likely rules out any true Harley-Davidson fans, it does introduce an entirely new market to the world of choppers – those without a motorbike licence. In fact, in QLD, SA, WA and the NT, a car licence is all that’s required to ride the WYLD, something EMoS hopes will broaden its appeal.

Powered by a choice of motors, and with three different-sized removable battery packs (12Ah, 20Ah, 30Ah), the WYLD weighs just 74kg without batteries, and will carry a 200kg rider.

Seen more as final-mile or ultra-urban solution rather than a true everyday transporter, the WYLD is expected to wear a price-tag of just $2999 in its cheapest configuration.

“Our philosophy has been from the start to be different. We want people to turn their heads for our vehicles, we want them to be excited about the form and the function and to make a statement for electric vehicles and that is the same for the WYLD which was ‘Born to be WYLD’,” says EMoS CEO, Harry Proskefallas.
