Leapmotor B10 plug-in priced for Australia: Compact SUV matches electric sibling on dollars, has much longer claimed range
Leapmotor has expanded its Australian line-up with the introduction of the new B10 Hybrid EV, a compact electrified range-extender SUV that promises up to 900km of driving range while matching the price of its battery-electric sibling.
Priced from $37,888 plus on-road costs for the B10 Hybrid EV Style and $40,888 plus on-road costs for the flagship Design, the newcomer joins the recently launched battery-electric B10 and undercuts the larger C10 Hybrid EV, which starts from $43,880 plus on-road costs.
The B10 Hybrid EV arrives in one of Australia’s fastest-growing market segments and will take on rivals including the BYD Sealion 5 plug-in hybrid, priced from $33,990 plus on-road costs, the Geely Starray EM-i from $37,490 plus on-road costs and the Chery Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid, currently available from $34,990 drive-away.

Unlike the larger C10 range, where the battery-electric version commands a $2000 premium over the Hybrid EV equivalent, Leapmotor has adopted a different strategy with the B10.

Both B10 powertrains carry identical pricing, meaning buyers can choose between the battery-electric B10 and the new Hybrid EV version without up-front any financial penalty.
While Leapmotor previously referred to its petrol-assisted electric vehicles as range-extender electric vehicles (REEVs), the company is now describing the B10 as a Hybrid EV.
The underlying technology remains similar to that used in the larger C10 Hybrid EV. The B10 uses an electric-first powertrain in which the wheels are always driven by an electric motor, while a 1.5-litre petrol engine acts solely as a generator to recharge the battery when required.
Leapmotor says the system delivers 160kW and 240Nm, allowing the B10 Hybrid EV to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 170km/h.
An 18.8kWh lithium iron phosphate battery provides up to 84km of WLTP-rated electric-only driving range, while a 50-litre fuel tank extends total claimed driving range to 900km. Combined fuel consumption is rated at just 0.9L/100km on the WLTP cycle.
The B10 EV claims a 516km NEDC range.
Charging capability includes 6.6kW AC charging and DC fast charging at up to 46kW, with Leapmotor claiming a 30-80 per cent recharge can be completed in around 20 minutes under ideal conditions.
The B10 Hybrid EV measures 4515mm long, 1885mm wide and 1665mm tall, riding on a 2735mm wheelbase. It retains the same rear-wheel-drive layout and multi-link rear suspension as the battery-electric B10, with chassis tuning undertaken by Stellantis engineers.

Inside, all variants feature a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance technologies.
The entry-level Style rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and includes a panoramic glass roof, integrated dashcam and connected services.
Stepping up to the Design adds synthetic leather trim, power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 12-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, power tailgate and rear privacy glass.
Leapmotor is also offering the first 500 Australian customers a launch package that includes three years of complimentary capped-price servicing, premium paint, a 7kW wallbox charger and a vehicle-to-load cable.
The B10 Hybrid EV is backed by an eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery warranty, an eight-year roadside assistance program and an eight-year capped-price servicing plan, while the vehicle itself is covered by a six-year/150,000km warranty.
