Confirmed for Australia! 2026 Subaru Trailseeker arrives as an EV and performance flagship for local line-up
Subaru has confirmed its second electric SUV for Australia, with the all-new Subaru Trailseeker locked in for local showrooms in the second quarter of 2026 as the brand expands beyond the recently updated Subaru Solterra.
Positioned as Subaru’s flagship EV, the Trailseeker arrives with a clear brief: combine genuine all-wheel-drive capability and touring practicality with performance that makes it the quickest-accelerating production Subaru ever built.
The dual-motor Trailseeker produces a claimed 280kW and is expected to sprint from 0-100km/h in about 4.4 seconds, figures that outpace any combustion Subaru sold here to date including the mighty WRX STi.

Subaru says this performance sits alongside traditional brand traits, including 211mm of ground clearance, standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a low centre of gravity designed to maintain stability on loose and uneven surfaces.
Underneath is Subaru’s next-generation e-Subaru Global Platform, engineered to manage traction and power delivery in real time while supporting higher outputs and longer-distance touring.
Power comes from a 74.7kWh CATL battery delivering a claimed range of up to 533km on the ADR cycle.
DC fast charging at up to 150kW is expected to allow a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in around 30 minutes.

Meanwhile 22kW three-phase AC charging, 1500W vehicle-to-load capability and a 1500kg braked towing capacity are intended to underline its intended use as more than just an urban electric SUV.
While Subaru presents the Trailseeker as an entirely new nameplate, it is closely related to the Solterra already on sale here.
In simple terms, the Trailseeker uses the same core architecture but stretches the package into a longer, more practical and more powerful SUV that better aligns with what Australian Subaru buyers traditionally expect in terms of space, stance and touring ability.
The Solterra was co-developed with Toyota and shares its underpinnings with the Toyota bZ4X. The Trailseeker in turn is effectively the Subaru version of the forthcoming Toyota bZ4X Tourer, a longer, wagon-style evolution of the same platform that Toyota is also preparing for Australia.
The Trailseeker’s larger proportions, increased outputs, towing capacity and adventure focus give the brand an EV that more closely mirrors the role played by the recently-overhauled Outback and Forester in the combustion range, rather than the more urban-focused positioning of Solterra.
Further details on Australian specification, pricing and final timing will be announced closer to the Trailseeker’s local launch in Q2 2026, with customers now able to register their interest ahead of its arrival.

Scott Lawrence, General Manager of Subaru Australia, said Trailseeker represents an exciting addition to the Subaru range.
“Trailseeker is the EV with personality. As the name suggests, this is the vehicle for drivers seeking adventure, who want to enjoy an engaging performance drive, all while remaining grounded in the confidence, safety and all-terrain capability that defines Subaru’s DNA,” he said.
“It shows that electric performance doesn’t have to come at the expense of confidence, control or real-world capability – the qualities our customers expect from a Subaru. And being the quickest Subaru production vehicle ever it’s a fun and engaging drive in all conditions. Trailseeker stays true to Subaru’s DNA, while opening a new chapter through electric power, offering even greater choice for our customers.”
