Better than the Toyota HiLux BEV? KGM Musso EV ute charges into Australia with 420km range, 1.8-tonne towing and bargain price tag
KGM Australia (formerly SsangYong) has revealed its first fully electric ute, the Musso EV, delivering a new entrant into Australia’s growing (admitedly rather slowly) electric ute market.
Built on the Musso’s ladder-frame platform, the Musso EV swaps the diesel donk for an 80.6kWh lithium iron phosphate battery which delivers up to 420km of range in 2WD form and 380km with AWD.
The 2WD version uses a front-mounted motor producing 152kW and 339Nm, while the AWD variant adds a rear motor for a total output of 175kW and 630Nm.

Compared to the HiLux BEV, those are impressive figures. Toyota in the UK has confirmed the specifications for the all-electric Toyota, with a 59.2kWh lithium-ion battery delivering a WLTP driving range of around 240km.

The combined power output is 143kW, and towing is limited to 1.6-tonne braked.
The Musso EV arrives in Australia in December with drive-away pricing starting from $60,000. And that makes it something of a bargain. The LDV eT60 begins from around $92,990 before on-road costs, and while the new Toyota HiLux BEV is yet to be priced, the brand concedes it won’t be cheap.
“This is more than just an electric ute – it’s a turning point,” said Joseph Lee, Managing Director at KGM Australia. “The Musso EV is purpose-built for lifestyle drivers who want practicality, efficiency and weekend-ready versatility in one package.”

On the outside, the Musso EVs get LED dot-pattern daytime running lights, a black grille and LED headlights. At the rear, there are LED lights and integrated bumper steps, much like in the Ford Ranger and new Toyota HiLux.
Inside, there are twin 12.3-inch displays, heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and a sliding 60/40 split rear bench.
The tub is lined as standard, and there are eight tie-down hooks and built-in lighting. The Musso EV also includes self-levelling rear suspension, which maintains optimal ride height when towing or carrying heavy loads.

Charging flexibility is another key feature. The Musso EV supports 10.5kW AC home charging (0–100 per cent in around 10 hours) and up to 300kW DC fast charging, delivering 10–80 per cent in just over 30 minutes.
Regenerative braking is adjustable via paddles, while Vehicle-to-Load functionality allows users to power tools, appliances or camping gear directly from the battery.
A solid-sounding suite of safety technology is also standard, including eight airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera.

The launch line-up includes three variants: Musso EV 2WD ($60,000 drive-away), Musso EV Black Edge ($62,000) and the Musso EV AWD ($64,000).
And if you’re wondering who KGM – or KG Mobility – is, it’s basically the old Korean auto company SsangYong under a different name.
SsangYong’s history dates back as far as the 1950s and over the decades it has passed through a series of owners including China’s SAIC and India’s Mahindra.
KG Group took over in 2022 and renamed SsangYong to KG Mobility in 2023. It made the naming swap to KGM in Australia on June 1 2025.
