BYD Atto 2 price and specification: Super-sharp Aussie pricing sets a new benchmark for electric SUVs
BYD has set a new pricing entry point for electric SUVs in Australia, confirming the compact Atto 2 will open at $31,990 plus on-road costs for the Dynamic and $35,990 plus on-roads for the Premium.
First showroom arrivals are due in December, with the Atto 2 slotting beneath the Atto 3 in BYD’s expanding SUV line-up and above the Dolphin and Atto 1 city car.
The Atto 1, which goes on-sale at the same time as the Atto 2, is priced from $23,990 plus on-road costs.

The Atto 2 undercuts the Leapmotor B10 priced from$38,990 drive-away to become Australia’s cheapest electric SUV. the MG S5 is $40,490 drive-away while the excellent Kia EV3 out of the ballpark at $47,600 plus on-roads.

The Atto 2 runs a 51.3 kWh Blade Battery across both grades, paired with a single front-wheel-drive motor producing 130kW and 290Nm.
It’s capable of a zero to 100km/h sprint in 7.9 seconds, and BYD claims a WLTP-tested range of 345 kilometres. Charging is brisk-ish too, with DC fast-charging from 10 to 80 per cent in about 39 minutes.
BYD’s pricing pitches small SUV EVs closer to ICE-powered pricing than ever before, and may well spark a flow-on effect as rivals slash costs to keep up.

The equipment level of the Atto 2 in addition to the price will also cause furrowed brows among rivals.
They both get intelligent rotating touchscreens of different sizes, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument panel and synthetic leather seats. The Premium upgrades to powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof and from four- to eight-speaker sound.
Safety features include six airbags, autonomous emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, lane keeping rear cross traffic braking, blind spot monitoring and traffic sign recognition. The Premium upgrades to a 360 degree camera from the Essentials’s reversing camera.

“The Atto 2 represents the next step in BYD’s vision for accessible, premium electric mobility for Australian drivers,” says Stephen Collins, BYD Australia’s chief operating officer.
“It reflects our commitment to combining technology, design, and efficiency, tailored for local drivers and conditions, reflecting BYD’s commitment to making EV ownership attainable for all Australians.”
He declared no concern the Atto 2 and Atto 3 would sit in a tight space and would potentially cannibalize each other. The incoming Sealion PHEV is also around this size.
“We think they will appeal to slightly different buyers,” said Collins. “And whether someone comes in on something and walks out with something else, that’s fine.
“There will be some cannibalisation, you’d be naive to think there wouldn’t be. But at the end of the day it’s all about trying to fill those needs.
“If someone walks in on an Atto 3 and walks out with a Sealion 5, great!”
