Leapmotor B10 is now Australia cheapest electric SUV! Pricing starts from $38,990 drive-away for MG S5 and BYD Atto 3 fighter

The Leapmotor B10 compact electric SUV will arrive in Australia in November priced from a segment-busting $38,990 drive-away.

The B10 will undercut the BYD Atto 3 (from $39,990), Chery E5 (from $36,990) and MG S5 (from $40,490 drive-away) to become Australia’s cheapest entry-level battery electric SUV.

The B10 range kicks off with the Style and then tops out with the almost as cut-throat $41,990 drive-away Design LR.

The Style comes with a 56.2kWh LFP battery pack driving the front wheels via a 160kW/240Nm e-motor and produces an eight second 0-100km/h time and a 170km/h top speed.

The claimed NEDC range is up to 442km between recharges.

The Design uses the same e-motor, but swaps to a 67.1kWh battery pack that extend its claimed range to 516km, earning it the LR (Long Range) designation.

The Design LR also has a faster 168kW DC charging speed, enabling a 30-80 per cent charge in as little as 20 minutes. Both cars share the same 11kW AC charging rate.

The second model from Leapmotor in Australia, following on from the larger but also sharply-priced C10, the B10 is based on the new-generation LEAP3.5 architecture.

The B05 hatchback that shares the same underpinnings will arrive in Australian in 2026.

The B10 measures up at 4515mm long, 1885mm wide, 1655mm tall and has a 2735mm wheelbase. It’s a frag bigger in every measure than the recently arrived MG S5.

Standard B10 Style equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED auto headlights, a panoramic glass roof, climates control, satellite-navigation, wireless phone charging, a 360 degree camera and a dashcam.

The Design LR adds ‘TechnoLeather’ seats with power, heating and ventilation up-front, a 12-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, a power tailgate and an LED rear light bar.

Both cars share a floating 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen on the dashboard, fully reclining front seats and 22 storage spaces.

There are no less than 17 driver assist systems including level 2 auto driving – let’s hope Leapmotor has tuned them properly!

Speaking of tuning, the ride, handling a steering has been addressed by engineers from Stellantis, the auto giant that is a co-investor in the Chinese company.

Engineers from Stellantis-owned Maserati fettled the C10 pretty well, so that’s promising for the B10, which comes with a 50:50 weight distribution and multi-link rear suspension.

Bad news for early adopters is they’ll have to wait for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to be uploaded by over the air update no sooner than January.

On the flipside, register your interest by October 31, complete the purchase by January 31 2026 and three year capped price servicing will only cost $200.
