Yet another Chinese Toyota Prado Fighter! Geely Galaxy Cruiser electric 4×4 can crab walk, jump over obstacles, float and could come to Australia
Chinese auto giant Geely could soon offer Aussies another electrified 4×4 off-roader rival for the Toyota Prado.
Unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show yesterday, the Geely Galaxy Cruiser is as far from an orthodox diesel 4×4 as possible.

Geely claims it is capable of driving in front-, rear or all-wheel drive and in pure electric, hybrid or extended-range modes, the Galaxy Cruiser can crab walk in circles, jump over obstacles and float on up to 800mm of water at a speed of 8.5km/h.
The Cruiser is even fitted with “sonar and water radar” to help avoid underwater obstacles.

Geely also claimed the vehicle would stay fully connected even in remote areas via Geely’s own satellite system.
Before you rush to your local Geely dealer, be aware the Cruiser was presented in prototype form and is not confirmed for Australia sales.
Geely has only arrived in Australia recently and the Cruiser would be a hard-core and highly capable alternative to soft-roaders such as the EX5 with which the brand has launched here.

It joins the likes of the Fangchengbao B5 and Deepal G318 as electrified full-size SUVs that are contenders to come to Australia and take on diesel staples such as the Prado an Ford Everest.
Galaxy is the sub-brand of Geely Auto from which export models for markets such as Australia are to be sourced.
Geely offered very limited information about the Cruiser, but hyped its artificial intelligence. It said the Cruiser was powered by “full-domain AI technology” and its 4×4 system was “AI-driven”.

Its this AI capacity that allows the Cruiser to “seamlessly” – Geely’s words – transfer between different driven wheels and systems and cope with terrain varying from urban to extreme off-road.
The Cruiser uses Geely’s Golden Short Blade Battery, which is protected by bulletproof matrials and coatings to prevents deformation, fire and explosions.
As reported yesterday, battery safety is a sudden and very big issue in China.
