World’s fastest three-wheeler EV revealed
Is the Daymak Spiritus an answer to a question a question that wasn’t being asked?
With a claimed top speed of 209km/h and the ability to accelerate from 0-100km/h to 96km/h in 1.8 secs, Daymak says Spiritus is the fastest three-wheeler electric car ever made.
One of six electric light vehicles announced under the Avvenire brand by the Canadian company last November, the Spiritus is now being offered for sale via a crowdfunding page with the goal of reaching 50,000 pre-orders by mid-July.
The pricing for the Spiritus Ultimate is a hefty US$149,000 ($195,000), while the entry-level Spiritus Deluxe starts at a far more accessible US$19,995 ($26,000).
The difference in performance helps explain the difference in price.
The Ultimate comes with an all-wheel drive system, peak e-motor output of 147kW and an 80kWh battery that delivers a claimed 482km range.
The Deluxe has a 75kW e-motor, a 36kWh battery, a 300km claimed range and 0-96km/h dash in 6.9 sec.
Both Daymak Spiritus models feature four airbags, three-point seat belts, scissor-style opening doors, a small solar panel for trickle charging and built-in alarm systems.
The Ultimate model adds in carbon-fibre bodywork, wireless charging, autonomous driving, automatic opening doors and a “traction and suspension system.”
Production of the Spiritus is scheduled to start in 2023 at Daymak’s Toronto facility, but orders placed before the July 23 deadline get the current price locked in.
The Daymak Avvenire Series includes five other individual vehicles. These are: Terra, an ebike designed to handle both on-road and off-road conditions; Foras, a covered recumbent bike; Tectus, an AWD mobility e-scooter that is fully electric and designed for all types of weather conditions and roads; Aspero, a light-weight, enclosed ATV; and finally Skyrider, a high-performance EV capable of flying.
By the way, Daymak is not a start-up. It has been around for nearly two decades making electric-powered bikes and the like. It just hasn’t gone into extreme performance before.
“This is very exciting” said Aldo Baiocchi, President and founder of Daymak. “Daymak has come a long way from when I started in my garage in 2001. The Spiritus is a dream come true.”
