Tesla Model Y lost best-selling podium place in the first six months of 2024 in Europe
The Tesla Model Y was the world’s best-selling car in 2023 but this year the all-electric SUV might not even make it to the podium if its poor showing in Europe is any indication, following the mid-size SUV ranked eighth place for sales in the first six-months of 2024.
According to new figures for the Euro region, the Tesla Model Y fell from first to eighth-place after the US brand only shifted 101,181 EVs in the first six months of the year.
Comfortably beaten by the budget-friendly Dacia Sandero hatch (143,596), at least the US car-maker can comfort itself for being the only EV in Europe’s top ten best-selling cars for January until the end of June.

The Sandero has led the charts this year following many EU countries wound back subsidies for EVs, including Germany.
It also helps the small Dacia hatch is priced from just €11,500 (about $19,000).
In second place in the first half of 2024 was the Volkswagen Golf (126,993), followed by the Renault Clio (114,623) and the Volkswagen T-Roc in fourth (111,381).
Last year, in total, Tesla managed to build and sell an incredible 1.2 million Tesla Model Ys beating both the Toyota RAV4 hybrid that topped the charts in 2022 and the Corolla that historically has led the global charts.
Hoping to renew interest in the Tesla Model Y early next year will be the arrival of the US brand’s facelifted take on the mid-size all-electric SUV that been developed under the Project Juniper codename. On the menu are many of the same updates already introduced on the Tesla Model 3 as well as big improvements in range, efficiency and performance.
