Kia EV6 beats Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche, Merc-AMG in race

We all know electric cars have the ability to humble many a supercar in the acceleration stakes, but the novelty of seeing a near silent Kia trump some of Europe’s finest petrol-burning exotica makes for compelling viewing.

The Korean brand’s eagerly-awaited 2022 EV6 model is getting most attention in hardcore GT form, so Kia decided to run a little drag race test to show off its potential.

Kia’s EV6 GT humbles some Euro exotica in a drag race

The video shows the crossover lining up alongside a Lamborghini Urus, Mercedes-AMG GT, McLaren 570S, Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Ferrari California T.

Spoiler alert. The rapid Kia gets a mighty jump over the rest of the field, then manages to hold its lead over everything bar the McLaren as they fly down the empty strip. “Engineered for emotional performance,” we’re promised.

Kia could have chosen different variants of model from these Euro heavyweights – a Porsche 911 Turbo or Lamborghini Aventador for instance – which would have shown the EV6 GT what for. But it’s a better PR exercise, of course, if it triumphs over anything from the stables of these hero brands.

Hey, speedy… Kia EV6 GT is out for some accelerating giant-killing.

That’s to take nothing away from this EV6 GT. Accelerating faster than such pricey supercars will turn many heads. And let’s be honest, did we ever think we’d see a Kia with 430kW and 740Nm and the ability to hit 100km/h in 3.6-seconds?

Best of all, Kia has promised we’ll be seeing a lot more performance offerings from its EV line-up in coming years.
