Cupra Formentor PHEV upgraded: More power, more range and DC charging capability added
Volkswagen-owned Spanish brand Cupra has confirmed pricing and early specifications for its updated Formentor range in Australia, headlined by a significantly upgraded plug-in hybrid variant that brings more power, longer electric range and – for the first time – DC fast-charging capability.
The refreshed Cupra Formentor VZe plug-in hybrid will be priced from $68,990 plus on-road costs (it was $64,990 at launch in 2023), positioning it as a key part of the brand’s electrification push.
Powered by a second-generation plug-in hybrid system producing 200kW (up from 180kW) and 400Nm (unchanged), the VZe combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (was 1.4) with an electric motor and a larger battery delivering a claimed 114km of electric driving range.
\It supports both 11kW AC charging and up to 50kW DC fast charging – a first for the model – and features dedicated electric and hybrid drive modes.

Beyond the powertrain, the VZe also brings a significant lift in standard equipment over lower grades. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and gains adaptive chassis control suspension, while the cabin is upgraded with Moonslate leather-appointed seats, a powered front passenger seat with memory, and a 12-speaker Sennheiser premium audio system. It also includes specific plug-in hybrid hardware such as Mode 2 and Mode 3 charging cables.

However, deletes the spare wheel in favour of a tyre repair kit.
The VZe is further distinguished by offering Cupra’s Extreme Package as an option, adding Sabelt bucket seats, larger Brembo front brakes, matrix LED headlights and unique interior finishes, aimed at reinforcing its positioning as a more performance-focused electrified model.
The updated Formentor line-up also includes a 110kW mild-hybrid S from $49,990 plus on-road costs and a 150kW all-wheel-drive V from $57,490, while the petrol VZx flagship is priced from $69,990 with 245kW and torque vectoring.

A limited-run VZ5 performance halo model, previously announced, continues at the top of the range.
Beyond the powertrain updates, the facelifted Formentor adopts Cupra’s latest design language, including a revised front end, new lighting signatures and an illuminated rear logo. Inside, the cabin gains a larger 12.9-inch infotainment screen, updated controls and revised materials, alongside additional standard equipment across the range.
The refreshed Formentor range is available to order now in Australia, with showroom arrivals due from April and first customer deliveries expected from late May.
