Korean electric mid-size electric SUV inbound! KGM Torres EVX arrives to take on Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Kia EV5

KGM is stepping up its electric game in Australia, revealing the all-new Torres EVX as the brand’s first all-electric mid-size SUV to tackle everything from the Tesla Model Y to the BYD Sealion 7 and its Korean sibling the Kia EV5.

The Torres EVX is the second KGM EV confirmed within days, following hot on the heels of the Musso EV ute.

KGM – formerly SsangYong – will launch the Torres EVX in a single grade that’s front-wheel drive only, and will list at $58,000 drive-away. So what’s it get for that money? Check out our full equipment list at the bottom of this story.

Compared with rival electric SUVs on sale in Australia, the Torres EVX lands as an interesting option.

The BYD Atto 3 is listed from $39,990 for the Essential and $44,990 for the Premium. The MG S5 Long Range is priced at about $43,990 drive-away. In terms of Korean rivals, the Hyundai Kona Electric starts at around $54,000 for the base model and about $58,000 for the Extended Range version.

The Kia EV5 spans $56,770 drive-away price for the Air and $75,990 drive-away for the top-spec GT-Line.

Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y begins at roughly $58,900 for the Rear-Wheel Drive variant, climbing to about $68,900 for the Long Range version.

The EVX is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 152kW and 339Nm. Energy comes from an 80.6kWh LFP battery, delivering a 462km driving range on the WLTP cycle.

When it comes time to plug in, KGM promises a 10–80 per cent charge can take as little as 37 minutes, provided you can access a 300kW charger. At 100kW, it takes more like 42 minutes.

The EVX is also set up for a maximum 11kW AC charging, and vehicle-to-load functionality is also standard.

Inside, the Torres EVX gets dual 12.3-inch screens, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, a powered sunroof and tailgate, ambient cabin lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels.

It also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 3D 360-degree camera, privacy glass and pull-up rear door sun blinds.

The Torres EVX measures 4715mm long, 1890mm wide and 1725mm tall, with a 2680mm wheelbase. Towing capacity is rated at 1500kg braked.

The MY26 Torres EVX is covered by a 7-Year Unlimited Kilometre Warranty. The high-voltage battery is backed by a 10-year Unlimited Kilometre Warranty.

Vehicles will be available at selected KGM dealerships in November for start of sales December 1 2025.
