That’s Gotta Hurt: Jeep Avenger flops in latest ANCAP crash testing, while new Leapmotor C10, XPeng G6, Volvo EX30 and Zeekr X EVs star
Jeep’s first-ever EV, the 2024 Jeep Avenger (pictured above), has returned a disappointing three-star (out of five) ANCAP rating, with the Australian crash safety body publicly urging the US 4×4-maker to do more to protect its owners.
Matching the same three-star EuroNCAP rating that the Jeep Avenger received earlier this year, the small battery-electric SUV was let down by a poor showing in vulnerable road user protection (59) and safety assist (54).
Average adult (79) and child (71) occupant protection scores didn’t hekp either.

Lowlights included the autonomous emergency braking system delivering only ‘marginal performance’ in detecting pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, as well as T-bone and head-on functionality.
“As an all-new model, it’s disheartening to see the Jeep Avenger fall short on safety,” ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg said.
“With many electric SUVs entering the market and receiving five-star ANCAP ratings, we know manufacturers can prioritise top-tier safety.
“We urge Jeep to do so, ensuring buyers don’t have to compromise on safety.”
Also missing out on the maximum five stars was the all-new MG ZS Hybrid. It was awarded four-stars – one more than the three stars ANCAP awarded the MG3 hatch that the latest hybrid MG SUV is based on.
ANCAP said that if the MG ZS had included a centre airbag and enhanced the rear seatbelt performance, it would have delivered the Chinese-owned brand the full five stars.
The Avenger and ZS were both overshadowed for good results by the new Volvo EX30, Leapmotor C10, Zeekr X and XPeng G6 battery electric vehicles, which all scored five stars.
The Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid was also a five star performer.
