Better than a Tesla Model X? Australia-bound Lucid Gravity full-size SUV to blend S-Class comfort, supercar acceleration and seven seats
The 2024 Lucid Gravity has been pencilled in for an unveiling at the upcoming LA motor show on November 16, providing new powerful seven-seat opposition to the likes of large battery-powered SUVs like the Tesla Model X, BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
If you’ve forgotten what Lucid Motors is, you better pay attention as the Silicon Valley-based EV start-up has already made a huge impression State-side with its Benz S-Class-rivalling Air limousine that blends style, huge performance and some of the finest EV tech this side of Rimac.
The Lucid Gravity will continue the EV disrupter’s good work and is tipped to be launched in right-hand drive markets, including Australia, in the second half of 2024.

Providing a tantalising glimpse of the large SUV’s front end, it looks like the Gravity will pick-up where the Lucid Air limo left off and feature smooth wind-cheating looks that incorporates a wraparound front light bar.
Designed by the same man who penned the current Mazda MX-5 and highly-respected Microbus concept, the Lucid SUV promises innovative packaging solutions that will make it feel larger than it is within.
Full technical details have yet to be disclosed but we already know that it will be offered with Lucid’s flagship triple-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that will incorporate a rear axle that produces 1000kW alone.
Expect total power to eclipse 1200kW and for the fast, family friendly SUV to launch to 100km/h in little more than 2.0 seconds.
Fed current by a large 113kWh battery the Gravity’s slippery aerodynamics should see it cover up to 700km between charges.
Less powerful models will also be available that will deliver 456kW and 588kW, while combined with a less energy dense 75kWh the total range between top-ups will fall to around 400km for the least powerful rear-drive version.
In the US it’s been tipped the Lucid Gravity will be priced from US$80,000 ($A126,000).
Commenting on his new creation Lucid’s design chief Derek Jenkins said: “I’m so thrilled with the results we are seeing with Lucid Gravity, sparing no opportunity to build on everything we learned with Lucid Air to create something that warps the vehicle-class continuum.
“It is both a supercar in disguise and an SUV with flexible passenger and cargo space that seems impossibly big relative to the exterior size of the vehicle. And it does this all with Lucid’s distinctive post-luxury design, inspired by California.”
Built at Lucid’s Arizona factory, production of the new SUV is tipped to begin before the end of this year ahead of early reservations being taken at the beginning of 2024.
It is thought the brand’s Australian launch is set to be timed to coincide with the UK launch that will follow Lucid’s arrival in mainland Europe next year.
