Raptor catcher, Cybertruck crusher: Extreme Rivian R1X performance pick-up shapes up ahead of debut
Battery-powered pick-up and SUV-maker Rivian is progressing with its plans to launch a faster more extreme Rivian R1X that will rival both the Tesla Cybertruck and the rumoured Ford F-150 Lightning Raptor.
Created to be a new high-performance flagship for the brand, the faster Rivian R1 X will sit above both the Rivian R1T and R1S SUV.
With the R1X nameplate already registered in the US and Australia, a recent patent image registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office shows how the extreme all-electric pick-up might look.

The images show a highly modified take on the R1T with more rugged styling, a higher ride height, grippier all-terrain tyres and a bespoke off-road-biased suspension tune.
There’s no word yet on just how much power the new Rivian R1X will get but expect it to overshadow the current quad-motor version that already pumps out an astonishing 623kW and 1231Nm of torque.
The Rivian R1X is not the only fast model being developed by the US brand.
Recently at the launch of the R2 SUV, Rivian shocked attendees at the Californian launch by pulling the drapes off both a small R3 and R3X SUVs.
The latter R3X is claimed to come with the firm’s latest triple-motor powertrain that can haul the mid-size crossover from 0-97km/h (60mph) in less than three seconds.
Despite the evidence of both the registered trademark and patent images, Rivian has yet to officially confirm that the R1X is inbound so there’s no word on timings.
