GWM Ora now up to $2000 cheaper as entry EV attempts to steal sales from the BYD Dolphin and MG4

GWM Australia has slashed $2000 off the 2024 GWM Ora Extended Range to help turnaround slow sales for the brand’s entry EV – and among the cheapest electric cars on the market.

It brings the Ora Extended Range to within $1000 of the price-leading standard model, which sells from just $35,990 drive-away.

So far this year in the first seven months GWM has sold just 675 Ora EVs, some way off compared to the strong-selling 1913 BYD Dolphin and the impressive 3078 deliveries of the popular MG4.

In a bid to boost its fortunes the mid-spec GWM Ora Extended Range now costs just $36,990 drive-away, with GWM claiming that it is the most affordable EV in Australia with a driving range of more than 400km.

Its new price means the Ora Extended Range model now costs just $1000 more than the Ora Standard Range which was recently undercut by the MG ZS EV in a price war at the entry level of the EV market.

GWM hopes buyers will now plump for the more expensive Ora Extended Range that gets a larger 63kWh battery and can cover up to 420km, compared to the 310km range of the base model that has to make do with a smaller 48kWh power pack.

At the top of Ora tree remains the 2024 GWM Ora GT that is also now cheaper following a $1000 price chop, with the sportiest variant now costing $43,990 driveaway.

The Ora GT shares the same 63kWh lithium-ion battery as the Extended Range with all versions driven by an identical 126kW/250Nm single e-motor that spins the front wheels.

Despite the price cuts standard equipment levels remain high.

Even the cheapest Standard Range bags 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control.

When it comes to safety, all versions come with rear cross traffic alert, forward and rear collision warnings, lane centring, lane keeping, lane change assists and lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist and drowsy driver detection, with the GWM Ora has already received the maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Opt for the GT and you get a sportier set of 18-inch wheels, GT-specific bumpers and grille, red brake calipers, a panoramic sunroof, a handsfree electric tailgate and heated, ventilated massage front seats.

Like before all GWM Oras come with a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, eight-year battery warranty, five years of roadside assistance and five years of capped-price servicing and are available from 103 GWM dealers nationwide.
