Genesis X Gran Racer VGT concept is a wild 1148kW hybrid that could preview a Ferrari fighter

Genesis has unleashed an even wilder version of its Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept hypercar for the Gran Turismo video franchise, fuelling rumours the luxury Korean car brand is secretly hatching a rival for the Ferrari 296 or Lamborghini Huracan behind the scenes.

Making its global debut at the recent Busan International Mobility Show, the 2024 Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept adopts a wild aero package that looks inspired by a Le Mans 24 Hour endurance racer.

Featuring a huge carbon-fibre splitter, canards, wide side sills, full carbon rear wing, roof-mounted air intake and an enormous rear diffuser, designers say the extreme motorsport-ready racer also gets active aero elements that include moveable flaps around the body.

Front and rear fender extractors and a completely flat underbody complete the upgrades.

Powering the Genesis X Gran Racer VGT is an advanced V6 hybrid powertrain that is said to pump out an almighty 1148kW and 1425Nm of torque.

Those outputs are an incredible 361kW/88Nm up on the Gran Berlinetta.

Full details of the combustion component of the powertrain have yet to be revealed but the V6 reportedly spins to 10,000rpm.

Inside, there’s a stripped-out cabin based on the Gran Berlinetta with leather and brushed aluminium ditched for Alcantara and carbon-fibre.

A pair of race bucket seats, race harnesses and race-spec steering yoke complete the updates.

“The Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept was unveiled for the first time today at the Busan International Mobility Show 2024 (BIMOS), highlighting the brand’s bold leap into the realm of high-performance luxury mobility,” a Genesis statement read.

“With the X Gran Racer VGT Concept being a part of the high-performance Genesis Magma program, today’s event marked the first time that a Magma vehicle was shown to the Korean public.”

The evidence of a second Gran Berlinetta-based hypercar suggests a Genesis supercar is on the way that could help provide a halo product for the car-maker’s emerging Magma performance division.

It has already confirmed a production GV60 Magma and G80 EV Magma performance sedan are on the way.
