Electric Porsche Macan family expands with lower-priced 2WD model, increased EV range
Porsche has expanded the new Macan family with confirmation of two additional variants, including the first ever two-wheel drive SUV from the performance car brand.
There’s also a new Macan 4S to slot between the already-announced – and soon-to-arrive – Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, each of which is now more expensive.
The new entry-level variant of the all-new Macan – known simply as Macan and due in Australia early in 2025 – also ushers in a new price leader for Porsche as the brand races towards 80 per cent of its vehicles being electric by the 2030.

But those expecting a return to the sub-$100K days of brand new Porsches may be disappointed with the new arrivals, because the cheapest new Macan EV is $128,400 plus on-road costs, a hefty $33,300 more than the cheapest petrol-powered Macan available today (production of petrol Macans has stopped with the car being phased out over coming months).
That Macan EV price tag is only $6000 cheaper than the already-announced Macan 4 ($134,400 plus costs) that has been given a $1300 price increase before the newcomer even hits the road as a result of a minor specification update, including the fitment of a rear windscreen wiper.
The new Macan gets the same rear motor as the Macan 4 but does without that car’s front motor. As with all Macans, the rear motor is a Porsche-developed unit – and dedicated to Porsche applications – whereas the front motor is a shared development with sister brand Audi.
Even with just that single electric motor, the new entry Macan pumps out 250kW and 563Nm, with the peak output increasing to 265kW when utilising the launch control system.
That’s not far off the 300kW/650Nm maximums of the Macan 4 and is enough to launch the car to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds.
The new entry Macan gets the same coupe-inspired five-door body and same high level of specification as the Macan 4.
That means a 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster, 10.9-inch central infotainment screen, adjustable dampers as part of the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, electric front seats with memory settings, leather trim and a surround view camera.
Sitting above the entry Macan is the Macan 4S, which bridges the gap between the Macan 4 and Turbo.
The new Macan 4S is priced from $149,300 plus on-roads, leaving plenty of space for an anticipated GTS model to slide between it and the range-topping Macan Turbo ($184,400, now $4900 more expensive).
The Macan 4S shares its front motor with the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo but gets a new rear electric motor; it’s the same diameter as that used on the Macan Turbo but is shorter at 150mm (versus 210mm in the Macan Turbo).
Maximum outputs for the Macan 4S are 330kW (or 380kW when using launch control) and 820Nm.
That’s enough to launch it to 100km/h in 4.1 seconds.
The 4S also picks up other features previously reserved for the Macan Turbo, including matrix LED headlights, Bose audio, panoramic sunroof, quad-zone ventilation and rear axle steering for added dynamic nous.
Both newcomers share the 100kWh battery of other Macans.
The omission of the front motor means the entry Macan is 110kg lighter, in turn increasing the claimed range by almost 5 per cent to 654km according to the less reliable Australian standard.
Still, it means that Macan (with no numbers) has the potential to go furthest of all the new Macans on a charge.
Utilising an 800V electrical architecture means it can charge at up to 270kW, for a 10 to 80 per cent charge in as little as 21 minutes.
