Cheaper Cyberster! New rear-drive MG Cyberster electric sports car is lighter, goes further and costs less. What’s the catch?
A new cheaper rear-wheel drive 2025 MG Cyberster 77kWh RWD has joined the MG roadster line-up in Australia.
While lowering the price of entry it also boosts how far you can travel on a single charge compared to the all-wheel drive flagship.
Joining the existing MG Cyberster 77kWh AWD, the new rear-drive version is priced from $99,900 plus on-road costs – a cool $15,100 less than the dual-motor roadster.

Powered by a single e-motor, instead of the all-wheel drive versions dual-motor arrangement, the rear-drive Cyberster punches out 250kW and 475Nm of torque.

That’s a big drop from the flagship AWD that kicks out a more muscular 275kW/725Nm, but the RWD can still sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds – 2.0 seconds slower than its all-wheel drive sibling.
However, as it retains the AWD’s 77kWh battery and is 100kg lighter at 1885kg (tare), the RWD’s quoted range has increased by 52km compared to the flagship, at 552km.
Even though it’s cheaper, the entry rear-drive Cyberster remains almost as well-equipped as the dual-motor version, although there are some differences to note.
The less powerful roadster sits on smaller 19-inch alloy wheels compared to the AWD’s bigger 20-inch alloys and features a Nappa leather interior instead of the AWD’s sportier Alcantara upholstered seats.
A fresh option for the 2025 MG Cyberster is a new Mayfair Blue exterior paint.

As well as the new rear-drive MG Cyberster, the Chinese owner MG Motor recently used the Shanghai motor show to reveal a coupe version called the Cyberster GTS.
Inspired by the MG Cyber GTS concept that was launched last July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, no timings were given as to when it will be released.
But it’s thought the all-electric coupe will arrive on sale in the second half of this year, with an announcement from MG Motor Australia on whether we’ll get it Down Under expected soon.
Without a heavy electric folding hood, it’s thought the Cyberster GTS will be price-positioned below the roadster.
Other rumours suggest the Chinese-owned British brand might be hatching an extreme XPower version that will boost power and torque and gain track-bred handling.
