Cheaper Jaguar I-Pace launches in Europe
A cheaper, less powerful Jaguar I-Pace has gone on sale in Europe, increasing the affordability of the pure electric EV SUV.
Sadly, Jaguar Australia insists it’s a European-only model and at present there’s no possibility of an equivalent version for our market.
The cheapest I-Pace currently on sale here is the $128,000 EV400 S grade. Since its 2018 introduction, some 250 I-Paces have sold in Australia, with latest figures showing 46 have found homes in 2020 so far.
Some left-hand-drive European countries have welcomed a less powerful EV320 limited edition variant, with around a 10,000 Euros ($16,500) discount over the equivalent specification EV400.
Should the same discount percentage (around 13 percent) be applied to the Australian EV400 S, a hypothetical EV320 S would cost $111,360, a saving of $16,640.

Considering the 85kWh battery (the really expensive bit) remains the same in the EV320 as found in the EV400, the savings looks substantial indeed.
You do sacrifice a fair performance whack with the cheaper car. The all-wheel-drive EV320 is named after its 320hp (235kW), down from the EV400’s (you guessed it) 400hp (294kW).
The EV320 has 500Nm against the EV400’s 696Nm, and 0-100km/h is a relatively tardy 6.4-seconds versus 4.8-seconds. Top speed also drops from 200km/h to 180km/h, but range remains at 470km as the models share the same 85kWh battery (Jaguar calls it a 90kWh battery, but the usable capacity is 85kWh).
In Germany the EV320 SE’s price of 75,350 Euros is the same as the lower-spec (but higher performance) EV400 S, but some 10,000 Euros cheaper than an EV400 in SE grade.
In France the EV320 will be limited to 100 units, and costs from 70,350 Euros versus the EV400’s 79,990 Euros. It’ll be available in S, SE and HSE grades, the same as offered on EV400s in Australia.
Jaguar Australia’s James Scrimshaw told EV Central “This EV320 derivative is available in limited numbers and is designed as an incremental offering. The EV400 I-PACE, with its greater performance potential, is still the pinnacle of the I-PACE range. There are no plans to offer the EV320 model beyond December 2020.”
The news follows updates for the 2021 I-Pace announced in June, including an improvement to home charging capability, over-the-air updates, better entertainment and price rises to suit.
