Facelifted 2025 Tesla Model Y outed partially as build-up to Project Juniper reveal begins

Tesla’s top-selling Model Y electric SUV is set for a big refresh with the first two glimpses of the 2025 update surfacing online.

The two unverified images posted on X (formerly Twitter) suggests the revised Tesla Model Y will undergo some significant design changes both inside and out as the US brand bids to keep the top podium spot in world car sales.

Developed under the codename Project Juniper, the two pics posted by Teslaconomics show one image of the exterior and an interior shot of what looks like an unfinished pre-production car.

Around the tail-light we can also see sheet metal changes that hint at more substantial differences compared to the Project Highland 2024 Tesla Model 3 that received criticism for looking too similar to its predecessor.

The interior shot of the Model Y is far less revealing, giving us a look at only the door card, ambient light strip, button door release, revised dash and lots of loose wiring.

Not visible are a pair of new front seats and a new steering wheel with extra buttons in lieu of indicator stalks.

It’s expected the updated Model Y will adopt a development of the facelifted Model 3 sedan’s slimline headlights and redesigned front bumper.

When it comes to what powers the mid-size Tesla SUV, the Model Y should benefit from the revised powertrains introduced by the upgraded Model 3.

That means the entry-level rear-drive Model Y will bag a 210kW e-motor and cover around 500km on a single charge.

The Long Range version will boast almost 370kW and have a higher-density battery offering a range of more than 600km.

At the top of the tree, the Model Y Performance should deliver around 375kW of power that should see the mid-size SUV launch from 0-100km/h in less than 4.0 seconds.

Tesla has ruled out a 2024 introduction for the Project Juniper Tesla Model Y, suggesting it will land in Australia the first half of 2025.
