The return of the sedan as an EV: Stylish Skoda 100 concept reveals what a future Tesla Model 3 fighter could look like

Skoda has released a stylish all-new concept that suggests there’s plenty of life left in the traditional sedan, even though most buyers have moved on to SUVs.

Releasing pictures of the new Skoda 100 concept, the four-door sedan embraces the classic three-box body shape that has been abandoned by many car-makers, while paying tribute to the Czech brand’s million-selling 100 made from 1969 and 1977.

Mirroring the original 100 rear-engine layout, Skoda exterior designer Martin Paclt said the angular concept is far more than a retro rehash of the 1960s classic that was even briefly sold in Australia.

“I wanted to work with a car that people know well – and that many once owned themselves. The Skoda 100 appealed to me with its clean, timeless lines, which resonate strongly with the current Modern Solid design direction.”

As well as looking back, the new concept is said to mirror the same proportions as the brand’s latest Superb, making it much bigger than the original 1969 4.1m-long 100.

Modern influences continue with the sharp interlinked LED headlamps and the sharply creased bonnet that features SKODA lettering along its leading edge.

At the rear, like Polestar, designers have abandoned a traditional screen and adopted an unusual large air intake inlet. Unusual, as there’s no rear-mounted 1.0-litre four-cylinder engine to chill.

Full-width slats beneath the taillights also replicate the classic look, despite the new Skoda 100 favouring a rear-mounted e-motor that only requires a small fraction of the combustion car’s cooling.

Sadly, for those who buy into its cool look, the new Skoda 100 concept hasn’t officially been green-lit for production.

Instead, it is destined to go on to inspire future Skoda models.

The latest Skoda 100 is another chapter of the Czech car-maker’s ‘Icons Get a Makeover’ series that has so far seen both a two-door coupe and a futuristic take on the Favorit.
